IMHO people only get pedantic about grammar and spelling when they don't have valid points to be making :P

btw Quitch did we reach a verdict here on Pinkie's sexuality? Or are you just having fun watching us squabble? :D

Ordinary things.

Story-type creations, in pretty much every format, have a strong tendency to only depict conversations about things which are important or interesting. But in reality of course, a lot of conversation isn't like that, and such conversations only tell part of the story. The way people talk about silly little things when relaxed like the furnishings at the last inn they were at or precisely which bird it is that's making that sound are just as important in establishing the way they relate to each other as conversations about what they really think of each other or shared philosophies or the like. Little conversations about random ordinary things can be great.

For example, "Why do you always give the worst armour and weapons to ME?!" :D

"Because it's not like I need to wear magic robes, NOOOooo... I don't mind being brutually massacred at all. Here. Here's a few giant beasts. Why don't I just stand virtually naked in front of them, like this?"

The idea of manipulating Imoen makes me very sad :( As does the idea of being dishonest or dishonestly coersive with her. Anyway...

Whether you're good or evil, you should know the best way to get people to do exactly what you want is to be at least civil to them. Indulge them, don't tell them exactly what you think of them.

Judging by the in-game dialogues (and i'm not sure because I've only tried this for a few of them) no matter how nasty you are to her she appears not to notice. The only time she leaves the party is if you start hacking up the commoners and children. So, she probably won't leave the part if you're indifferent or nasty to her alone.

However, she's bright, and IMHO she definitely does notice.

Perhaps her disappointment at being ignored or forgotton or snapped at could build up over a number of exchanges and lead to a confrontation? Or maybe, thinking of the way she normally likes to deal with issues that are very heavy, she might crack a joke that has undercurrents of how upset she is.

CHARNAME: Get lost, brat!
Imoen: Whoops, silly me. I guess it's the kennel for me, tonight. Or... since we're in the graveyard, perhaps you'd prefer if I just hopped into one of the holes...

Hmmm. Possibly a little more sinister than that.... but you get my drift.

EDIT: Hmmm, my spelling leaves MUCH to be desired....

In Topic: Why is Imoen a mage?

My 0.02c:

Imoen learnt how to be a thief out of necessity in Candlekeep. It's naughty (and therefore fun), it cured boredom, it got her what she wanted and out of things she didn't want...

But now that need is gone.

She's bright, magic probably comes very easily to her. I CAN'T see her swatting over a book and spending a lot of time studying - as if she'd waste her time ;) Probably she picked up a scroll, thought "Hey, I can remember /that/!" and it went from there.

Alternatively, (and also in a way that strokes my charname's ego) she absolutely adores Charname. My charname is a mage, perhaps she thought she'd give it a shot as well.

As for the plot device argument - there are much simpler ways to get arrested by the cowled wizards that changing her whole career. I think the more likely argument is the Bioware thought that people would prefer her to be a Mage (and at least, in my case, they were absolutely right).

Imoen, for her flightyness, isn't one to back down from her path.  She's pretty bullheaded and stubborn.

Imoen is flighty? I'll disagree there. She's pretty goddamn loyal and doesn't really have emotional freakouts or mood swings or take off on some strange 'need my space' journey as you'd expect from someone who's flighty.

But I agree with you. Apart from her initial interest in sex (when she was younger, sneaking to read the tantric sex tome as told to Anomen) most of her dialogues that have anything to do with sex start with "EEEEWWWWWW!" (although, she must have a rather ...inquisitive brain to imagine some of the situations that she says ewww to....)

I also don't think Imoen would jump into bed with you in the timespan of the game... for anything other than a comforting hug-snuggle (nightmares, you understand ;) ) but I do think she would thrive from some mushy TLC.
