If you are desperate to play BP without the bugs of v177, you can do some research and install the old, non-weidu version 161g with S&H patch version 7. This old version has its own set of bugs, but many of these involve TDD/SOS and workarounds for most can be found in the forum archives. Alternatively, you could install the original Tactics mod plus weidu Ascension. The original Tactics mod is technically crude in some ways and this does affect gameplay, but it remains an IE classic that eveyone should play at least once. Another alternative is to try out the Improved Anvil mod from Blackwyrmlair, or build a megainstall around any other of the tactical tweak mods out there.

I've spent the last year or so playing NWN mods and NWN2, but the BG series has a charm to it that makes me want to come back and play it again. After reading though the posts on this forum it seems that there is a problem with the final battle in TOB with BP177. So if I am installing BP now, would it be better to skip the BP version of Ascension and install the standalone Weidu version of Ascension instead or would that hose my BP installation? I still have all the 'classic' BP files on my PC, and since I have little interest in playing through SOS and TDD again I was thinking I might use these again if the first option is not possible. Any ideas? Thanks
On my latest build until BPv178 is released, I've got the standalone Ascension mod installed just prior to BP177, and skipped the BP version. Time will tell if I ever get that far,,,
OK, thanks
