After all the battles...

07 March 2010 - 12:02 PM

<_<

No, honestly.

<_<

First Viconia. I removed her from the party, at loss of what to do (every forum on the net just says it's romance-related or missing patch-related. Well I don't have a romance with her and I have all the patches installed). Now Neht'aniel.

I found some fancy tutorial here http://www.shsforums...ing-stuttering/, but it states clearly:

"This tutorial assumes you know the fundamentals of modding (creating a tp2, viewing/reading game resources and variables, understanding scripts)."

I don't even know what tp2 file does, I know nothing at all. I'm helpless. And there I thought ToB would bring me some bugless entertainment seeing how few mods affect it

I just... please help me with that thing. I'm really on the verge of giving up the entire thing. I've tried removing some affects in SK or whatever, but it doesn't work. They walk, then stop, then don't attack. No AI helps with that. I've tried to trigger all reactions via ctrl-i but, yeah, it was just a silly idea of mine that did nothing.

SoA playthrough bug summary (Tactics version)

07 March 2010 - 04:02 AM

Oooookay... So I *almost* went through SoA part. So, I'm going to to give here a fresh-from-memory bugs summary, of those that didn't really break my game but maybe someone will feel like looking into them [and I'll get to the *almost* part in a moment]:

1. Duergar enlargement crashes the game. Can be overgone with ctrl-y on them as soon as their "circles" get big. There's no animation for them whatsoever. As I recall, they should look like giants.

2. Fine items have no icons. That's basically not a problem at all, I just never picked them up (who needs them in SoA anyway?) but it's a cosmetic issue that could be easy to find and prevent giving off the impression of a less buggy game.

3. I couldn't get the game running right with leaving the default SCS AI - monsters weren't attacking, but they behaved fine on BP AI (mostly, from time to time someone was acting weirdly, for example running around doing nothing, but it was really rare and almost unnoticeable).

4. Funny, minor bug appears when trying to leave Promenade - the only destination is Gate Disctrict, and only from there could I reach, for example, Slums. Travelling to Promenade from within the city takes 20 hours.

5. I've happened to bump into two encounters-ambushes that looked as if a cutscene was about to begin, but then nothing happened, and I could simply walk away. No enemies, no nothing.

6. There seem to be some issues with the Neh'taniel mod, and as far as Kitanna is working on it, I suspect something else may be preventing the graveyard scenes from working correctly after encounter with Bodhi, as it seems to work on her installation.

7. During the fight with Bodhi I happened to have my screen thrown onto the Graveyard district. Happened twice, then it didn't. No rule, somehow random, yet peculiar.

8. I've changed Imoen's class to mage/cleri (via lvl1NPCs) and sometimes her spells wouldn't work - restoration and cure disease, as far as I've noticed, but only on herself. Then again, I think I've tried having Viconia cast them as well and they just didn't work on Imoen. Not a big deal though, ctrl-r fixes the issue, but the issue persists.

9. De'Arnise keep was first called like some random line from a conversation and later a "Blue potion bag" or something. I haven't been through that quest this time, but I've travelled to the location and it seemed okay, so if the problem is just the name, it sure is fine.

10. Imnesvale sure seems to have some trouble. When I came back from the Amaunator's temple, the cutscene was fine and the Mayor talked to me and all, but then:
- I couldn't move mayor or his wife even though they became "green" as in controllable. I doubt they're THAT fat.
- Only one mage came to fight (boy, was he vicious) and there were no troops, portrals or sons.
- A weird thing happens then - there comes a constant flash of spells (invisibility animation) and I'm spammed with messages "Spawn 1 - invisibility", same for spawn 2, 3 and I think 4

11. Annoying bug, but once again, liveable - in Spellhold (Improved Asylum installed [gods these Noble Umber Hulks gave me a pain! I was around 12 lvl at a time]) there's this party with optional fight of sorts - and there's that mage. I remember last time he was talking to me some, but this time he got looped in some terrible contingency/sequencer casting some 10 spells on his every second. I couldn't talk to him as he kept being invisible and I couldn't dispell that invisbility either. I couldn't even ctrl-y him so he would stop spamming my message window. Attacking with fireballs and stuff did nothing either, and his teammates had naught to say.

12. Another wierd and annoying thing - some weapons bug the game making it crash upon equip. I cannot pinpoint you the respective items, as they seem to be completely random. Once a simple scimitar+3 got bugged, although usually those were the items most assuredly coming from mods and they were broken to begin with. I don't remember the items (my bad, I didn't write it down), but I know that there was something that had 2% chance of disintegration upon hit, I think. Maybe something will come to mind.

13. Gods, is Arkvisti the Wanderer annoying and unclimatic! I'm sorry, but he appears in places like Brynnlaw? And some other completely illogical ones. And he always starts a conversation with me least I ctrl-y him. Not a bug, but definitely an annoyance and I must see what mod he comes from to avoid it in the future.

14. Another thing - I've had Aerie in my party for a while. Setting her an AI script other than some simple one like Ease of Use AI made the game crash on returning to the game screen/turning on the AI lamp, provided it was off.

15. Irenicus in Spellhold was surprisingly easy. As in I ate him for breakfast and he didn't even summon clones.

16. Force-talking to Bodhi at first encounter, when she is appearing, makes her immediately not summon any guards and as soon as the talk is done, she starts the "you won, ciao" one and leaves, even if still uninjured. Easily overgone by simply letting her begin the talk instead.

19. Some quests don't get moved to the "finished" category upon finishing. I can give some names, if need be. Definitely a very minor issue.

20. Saguahin city - should there be sooo many hostile ones before I complete any quest? I basically ran the entire thing on invisibility as I just couldn't remember how it was in the basic game (really not a fan of Seamon :D) and was afraid to kill them in case I would set off some slaughter and make it impossible to finish their quests...

21. Now that I think of it, the Wild Mage from wild mage additions never spawned. And I haven't seen Mprolla the Spammer either and I wanted to see his lines

22. There was a need to add two files into override directory, dw#duwar.cre and dw#duarc.cre or else the game was crashing at startup. No matter how many installs I've made, with or without Infinity Animations, Check the Bodies or some other fishy mods (by all means, I love IA, but it did give me some errors upon installs at first so in my head it sits in the fishy category still).

23. Some abilities are missing - like greater whirlwind attack - for some classes (mage/thief/fighter, for example). I suppose it could be a fault of some mod which adds additional ones. But there's still place for a few more so I don't understand why would they be gone...

---MAJOR BITC..BUGS---

17. In Hell, there's that goddamn difficult fight I probably wouldn't win atm (no mage in my part has even a lvl 7 spells, but that's what happens when I want to know what happens in romance mod next   ) but being unwinnable for my party isn't an issue. I actually tried to ctrl-y them to just move to ToB and then go back to SoA areas and just frolick around [with intention of going back to Irenicus next playthrough around when I'm less curious and more patient, really!] and then a cutscene starts, party is healed or something and nothing happens. No second part of the fight begins.
---> !I checked just for the heck of it and you know what? Wheels of Prophecy uninstalled remedied this issue as well! What the hell   I hooope the dialogues won't go awry as they sometimes do when uninstalling a mod and using old save game.

18. I thought "ah the hell with it" and tried to import the save to ToB. Unfortunately, I get stuck with the faces. They speak their lines, and then upon "Farewell" or "I shall talk to the others" nothing happens. It just shows the face with flaming eyes for all eternity. I've checked my WeiDU log in hopes I had both Wheels and ToB Revised installed, but it seems that in end I didn't install ToBR at all.
--> It's for certain a Wheels of Prophecy problem, that I know now as it's gone after uninstalling that mod. But I'd rather not do that, so if you could help me, please?

-:-:-:-

If I'll remember anything else, I'll edit this post. As I said, first points are liveable and I just point them out in case someone felt like looking into matters and fixing them/yelling at me for my fail

I had removed Check the Bodies from my install in fear of stutter. Hopefully it all still belongs to this forum, seeing as it was made with BWP installer.

Minor and Major bugs - Tactics installation

24 February 2010 - 07:56 AM

Hope it's okay for me to start a new topic. Installation does seem to be working in general, but I'm already enountering some errors. I thought it would be easier to find them in a new topic.

Anyway for now one is very minor, but the other seem quite serious (reminds me of a problem I had in TuTu once and it sucked a lot :D):

0. Lvl1NPCs script doesn't activate after pressing R and coming back to the game screen (newly recruited char, AI lantern on). But the exp does equalize so it's probably me who's doing something wrong.

1. I found an item called "An excellent dagger" that has no icon. What mod does it come from and which file may be missing? It works just fine other than that - it appears on a paperdoll, has a description and stats, just no icon

2. Ogre Mage summoned by the djinni in the crystal chambers doesn't attack. He just stands there waiting to get slaughtered. In TuTu installation once I had such problem persist to all the mages in the game, which makes me assume it may be something with the SCS AI or whatnot. While the excellent items icons is just a minor annoyance, and this being only about the Ogre Magi would be so too, I'm afraid it will infect all the mages in game which would be just lame <_<
EDIT: Illyich's mage attacks. Good sign

3. Illyich runs away from the fight (which is, may I say, terribly easy. And there I was saving all my spells for it (can't rest)) and doesn't attack at all. No idea why. I remember last time there was some trick that they were changing into giants or whatnot. And I also remember the infamous Tactics Deva-Priest with doors that wouldn't be closed [that one actually WAS fun. And very rewarding in terms of A-HA! THERE YOU GO BITCH!]. Neither happens. I used one potion of cure light wounds and they're all dead. Something's wrong.

EDIT: Ok, this is a serious serious bug. I was hoping it may only be the case of the dungeon or something (hope dies last, right?) so I CLUA'd around a few locations to see if others would be fine. The team on the 2nd floor of the Seven Vales Inn was fine - mage had protections on, he started casting spells, rest attacked me. So then I moved to that random encounter with the slaves AR0046 or so, and this time ONLY the mage was doing something. Three others were red but unmoving. The cambion in Irenicus' dungeon was fine (and had an awesome new avatar, by the way). I moved to sewers - some nymph attacked me and she was just as nasty as she should be (immediately charming Minsc and casting spells) but two dwarfs around her (that had names too, Hero Killer something and some other one) were red but idle. Finally I moved up in the sewers to that party I remember gave me quite a pain last time I've played a modded game - the dialog triggered just fine, and then two of them attacked me, while three or so more didn't even go red. Something is seriously messed up and is definitely making the installation unplayable, but I have not even the faintest idea what might be the problem. I'll hold myself from reinstalling until this is resolved, cause I got the feeling it will just be the same.

BWP - SCARY amount of errors during installation

21 February 2010 - 07:26 PM

...well, yes, I must've failed  (...like forgetting to remove CD from one drive. I am not *SURE* it made things better, as the installation is running, but I'm giving it a try [and going to sleep]. Still, please do take a look at this post, in case I was wrong and problem lied elsewhere (would be too good to be true if it was only a CD, wouldn't it?).
And for the future must also remember to move all tp2 files to main folder too as they stop installation if placed in their default locations...

I felt the need to play some BG2, even if only at nights due to the lack of time (4 AM here now, could be an example...) and of course I came back to the BWP. Since I don't want to go through BG1 I was thrilled to see the version for BG2 only and picked it (in hopes to have much smaller installation, smaller files, override and whatnot and avoid the stutter bug).

This time, I've done some reading on big mods and decided to only use Check the Bodies (meaning I skipped NEJ, SoS, TS, TDD, BGT, all that huge things I've installed last time). By the way, is Check the Bodies a good choice? I don't want some huge quest that will take me away from the actual game, break everything I've been doing and unbalance further game as I will come back with über developed party and whatnot  <_<

So yes, I've downloaded all the newer mods, new WeiDu, read through the new PDF, avoided all mods that have been greyed out, limited NPC mods as I never take them anyway and just have one banter/test the romance... I've tried to be economical and do it right.

What I got in return? ERRORS   :crying: So many errors! I've watched the installation go on for a while and when they begun I caught some screenshots. I've stopped it soon after as, I mean it, even "Rest Anywhere" didn't install. I doubt my WeiDU log would tell you anything at all.

The links below are the links to the screenshots with random errors - I don't know if they will be any indication, but maybe they scream "YOU FOOL WHAT HAVE YOU DONE UNDO IT" and I just don't see it?

I've read somewhere that the installation of BG2 standalone is not officially supported (or I misread it somewhere, happens as well), but nonetheless I would appreciate any help. I considered doing it "by hand" as there's just CTB and BP there, but the Fixpack scared me of that idea. And I bet I'd do something wrong too, even while following the PDF.

I feel like such a n00b, and it's something like 3rd or 4th time I'm installing with BWP (and version by version it looks more professional! I loved all the questions at the beginning about AI, armors and such   )

Additionaly, as I cannot provide the WeiDU.log, I'm giving another screenshot of the mods I've tried to install (if someone by any chance spots something adding Thunderblasters +10 for 100gp do tell me! I want no more Exnem Vault-style items allowing me to solo all tactical mods with my lame char).

The game is also patched with that ToB patch ending with 8 not 9 as it was told somewhere to be done.

On another note - should I be lucky and someone with information bothered to reply - PDF file says that BG2Tweaks component of multi-class grandmastery is incompatible with Refinements - I really like that one. I've seen also that BG1 NPC does a similar trick, but would it affect my PC? And is it even active in the installation?

I've only modified two mods in the .bat file - maybe that made it go wrong? Or shouldn't it?

Aurora - changed the components to increase store prices but remove other penalties, I doubt this could do anything bad.
BG2Tweaks - added (in places that seemed appropriate, ibetween other components of smaller and bigger numbers, in the lines invluding the sk part instead of a name of some other mod):
10 - remove helmet animation
2150 - pnp restirctions for protection items
2200 - the one with weapon profs...
3000 - always max HP on level up
3010 - for all creatures in game

And I've also had another bug, now I remember (gods, sorry for such a long and chaotic post, I am!) - when running installation.bat it told me I have something wrong with the paths, and should install at my own risk. Well I opened that file and changed all C:\ to F:\ (a drive where my BGII - SoA is located). I thought that warning disappeared because it was good, but it didn't. It appears once then doesn't one. Another run it is, and then it's gone. No idea what the hell is going on.

In case it mattered (and I really don't know what does, just trying to spare you asking questions) - I'm running Windows 7 (disabled the "do you want to allow this program to make changes" or whatever popup, had my Avast! deactivated too.

Some other thing that *could* be an indicator - in a Smoothpack the _modify folder is empty. I was supposed to modify something in the file the about Stuff of the Magi (I want them equipped? Was that it at all?) but I didn't have where.

I've also picked the Expert installation, I've tried to pick the mods carefully enough and read all the PDF warnings (well I DID pick 200 of them and ended up with 100, right?), I didn't want to have the installation too limited. But I still don't think this alone would bombard me with alllll these errors (honestly, I could only catch a few screenshots but I could easily make it a veeeeeeeeeery long picture should I catch them all!

Oh well, I hope one day I'll be able to answer someone else's rant (I do visit here quite often even when I don't play just to see if I could return some good karma as you guys have already helped me heaps in the past).

Thank you all for your wonderful and stunning work around here, I wouldn't be surprised if I were playing BWP 20 years from now. Long live Baldur's Gate and its fandom!

Bodhi [Fanart]

18 October 2009 - 04:01 PM

So yes, I just found these forums (quick, seeing that I've been lurking around for around three years (or maybe six, I'm not best with time-feel). I have one BG fanart I've made some time ago so I thought I might just as well paste it here for some criticism or whatnot. I know some imperfections already, but I've been trying the new style on it and I've noticed them only later when I could throw some fresh eye on them, if I could say that. Well

Hope someone likes it
