I have encountered the bug, which is most likely related to BGT.
In the location north of Friendly Arm Inn are the ankhegs and the girl (Gerda?) who appear to be ranger and she will advice you on keeping your killing spree at 10 at most. After killing one or more ankhegs and talking to her again she wil thank you for obeying her guideline, give you 75 gold and disappear. This is also connected to two journal entries (now in done quests).
When getting to Baldur's Gate in the most western location under the walls (where you can get only when coming from south-east location in BG) is the house and inside it is the dward called Fenadan or so. He will ask you to go get some ankheg shells for him and to seek Gerda (the girl mentioned above) for instuctions south of Wyrm's crossing (which is north of FAI as well). Again you get the journal entry to do so, but since Gerda is gone already you cannot finish the quest - Fenadan is not speaking to you anymore.
I am absolutely sure this did not happen in BG1 orignially. Altough the dwarf sent you to hunt some Ankhegs and possibly mentioned the ranger-girl as well, having it done already meant only that one could speak to him and claim his reward for the ankheg shells right away.
Therefore I report this as a bug :-)
Thanks.
