This might be a stupid question, but...

This might be an incredibly stupid question, but I've noticed a lot of variables in a lot of the item descriptions and dialouges. Would it be a bad idea to use these sorts of things in the romance conversations so that Jaheira would refer to a female character as a she/female/her instead of as a male?
Or is that completely sidestepping the entire forced heterosexuality thing?

arnell's Nalia's Romance
20 April 2003 - 12:17 PM
I was recently looking over Nalia's Romance again, when it struck me: Has anyone tried to make a WeiDU version of this, one that is perhaps compatible with Ascension, or is it just stuck the way it is?
Armor Colors
21 March 2003 - 09:30 PM
OK, screwing around with NI and making the Plate of Balduran a true suit of total black armor. So far, I've got the all colors set to 21, and as I expected, it looks a bit...dull. I've also looked over Keldorn's armor, thinking that all the colors would be the same; imagine my surprise when I discovered this wasn't so. Is there any color you guys would recommend for the main body that might make it look more like black steel and less like a flat sort of black?
I'm very open to suggestions.

Trying to create a long bow with Near Infinity
13 March 2003 - 04:16 AM
To combat the shortage of decent long bows in BG2, I downloaded Weimer's Item Upgrade pack, and aside from a few palette switches, I like it. However...
One of the things I've noticed about the Teleomortis is that...well, it's a composite long bow that requires 18 Strength. Now, it's not like every ranger actually needs 18 Strength, especially an archer. Right now, I'm trying to create a new long bow for archers with, er...shall we say, "lower than munchkin" strength with Near Infinity with these stats:
*
Kabbalah's Heartbane +4
The favored weapon of the famed (for her beauty as well as her skill with the bow) elven archer Kabbalah Ní Mhaonaigh, this blackwood ceremonial bow was given to her by one of her many would-be suitors. The bow's name stems not for its dreaded ability to kill in a single blow, but as a lament, for the ranger refused to marry. Instead, she professed dedication to Mielikki and the Way of the Bow. Strangely enough, the bow seems to exhibit a semblance of awareness, allowing itself to be held only by women and harboring a special distaste for members of the male gender, who should fear additional damage from its arrows in battle.
STATISTICS:
Equipped Abilities:
User immune to Charm, Confusion, Fear, Psionics
Combat Abilities:
25% chance each hit that target must save vs rod/wand or be stunned (as per Celestial Fury)
5% chance each hit that target must make a saving throw vs death (+2 bonus) or die (as per Silver Sword)
+5 damage to male humanoid targets
THACO: +4
Weight: 2
Speed Factor: 3
Proficiency Type: Longbow
Type: 2-handed
Requires: 6 Strength
Not Usable By:
Male Characters
Druid
Cleric
Mage
Thief
*
The bow uses the graphic of the Elven Court Bow with a black/white or dark grey palette.
So far, the booming thunder and vorpal strike don't seem so difficult, but the restriction against male characters and the bonus damage against male characters are...difficult (and probably not even worth coding in, thinking of replacing it with double damage versus rakshasa or something). However, as a first time user of NI, may I have some help with this? Heck, I don't even know how to write up a new item file...

Argh...monk clothing
13 March 2003 - 02:43 AM
Well, I haven't been able to get my hands on the standard Infinity Engine editors, so I'm playing Near Infinity, mostly to edit the colors and appearances of items I like that just happen to be ugly (IMHO), but I figure that sooner or later, I'm going to want to make some of my own items. (Liike Valygar's Improved Armor, which is now all black ala Shadow Dragon armor, something I've been trying to do for months!) Now I just need to figure out how to tint his armor icon black to match the suit itself: suggestions? (I have Photoshop, but don't know how to extract the icon as an image file...)
Question of the day: In BG2, there's a guy dressed completely in red in the Bridge District who doesn't seem to be wearing any armor. (I believe this was the "Buried Alive" Quest.) Now, I want to get my monk to wear all black (sort like a catsuit) except monks don't wear armor; I've already used Shadowkeeper to cover the leather and metal parts so they blend in with her black color scheme. Is there a way, using Near Infinity, to create a suit of clothing that doesn't qualify as armor, yet can be worn by a monk? (Of course there is, I'd just love to know how to do it.) Or is covering the legs and arms just a big no-go on female monks?
