Topics I've Started

My playthrough this far

12 August 2007 - 07:12 AM

Well, this is not my first post here in CA forums. I've posted some "please help me requests" but this is not one of them. I finally got to install the mod and play it, I also got past that cutscene error (which has not to appear to the game continue). I uninstalled everything, installed everything again, started a new game and this time it did not occur so I could go to Mistmoor after cleaning the Lizardman fortress of every Sahuagin living there.

From the beginning of the Mod until now I did not encounter any bugs, or at least any critical ones. I found it very interesting, not easy but not difficult, I had to reload some times due to a Npc killed but I could do it. My Party at this time were my Human PC Wild Mage (I'm really enjoying this class), Dirbert, Shadow, Althon (I really love this NPC, will comment later), Aesdale (I just don't like him at all) and Blush (comments later). Only bug this far were that in the Lizardmen cave, anytime I clicked in the unopenable doors I got the message: Temple of Umberlee, and if I clicke in the hidraulic door I got: This tree is laying on loads of corpses or something like that. Obviously an error occurred with the dialog strings, but not anything grave. A question: Do the rags have any use?

Before going to Mistmoor I did the Bane priests quest. It was great and the battle awesome (again not easy not difficult), I don't know if I missed something here or not, I registered everything and I liked it. The first time I tried it, the Umberlee priestess did not appear to give me the key to the tomb (in her location at the Market). I just reload prior to the quest and this time it worked (I have learnt to make a lot of savegames before, between and after doing a quest). With all my work finished I sold items and went to Mistmoor.

At my arrival there I had plans to join Rihn and Vildamyr so I decided that Aesdale and Blush had finished with me (even if I did not get their plot finished). I had the encounter with the elven maidens who where looking for Aesdale and just after that encounter finished I dumped him and a bug happened. If I dump him, he just stands there, without giving me the leaving/rejoining dialog and I can't talk with him again. I get the "Aesdale has nothing to say to you" message, but if I dump Blush, they both go to Saltmarsh without problems. I recall the same happening in the ship when you meet him first, I kicked him after joining and the same thing happened.

I went to the Mistmoor Manor without joining Rilithar, only making him follow me. This quest is greatly planned but a little confusing when you play it. I didn't knew what to do a lot of times so I just went up and down the Mansion until I found something new, but I guess it's just more fun to not know what to do. Some comments here: I first went to the basement so I found Rihn very soon, I discovered that was her the one tricking everyone but after he joined me I found the dagger in the main hall (which I suppose was Rihn's dagger, so if she was in my party that dagger was not suppose to appear? May be I did not see it when I entered the first time in the Mansion). After joining her, I continued registering the basement and found Vildamyr (great character, comments later) who I inmediatly joined. The same thing as for Rihn's dagger happened but this time with Vildamyr's flail. I finished the quest but again I think I found a bug. When everything was about to be done and I only had to go to the vault after summoning the Viscount, I had problems doing it. Before summoning him I quicksaved so I could repeat it until it went right. When I summoned him he disappeared without giving the opportunity to talk to him. I just had to pause the game right after summoning him, click over him to talk and unpause, then I could talk and learn the command words. I then could finish the quest. The only thing is that any time I tried to talk to the ghosts after they had talked to me, I received the "has nothing to say to you" until I progressed a little more. I think it could be changed.

After cleaning the chapel, Althon told me about his dream. I thought it could be a way of using the rod of resurrection and the Regen scroll but I could not find where or how to use them so I supposed it was only to bring more reality to the game giving what really happened in the Mansion.

Then I went to Selgaunt but before that I tried (before that I quicksaved) joining Falastra. She's an intriguing character (I read her .D files) and I don't know if it will be developed later but from her dialogs (.D file) I thought that she should be at least True Neutral. More comments later.

In Selgaunt everything went fine, I talked to Pel'Ja, agreed in her quest, went to the Vault and agreed to go to Myth Drannor. The quest there was great, the map is great, but I have only two comments: From where is the area map? I haven't seen it before and I felt it was really Myth Drannor. The other thing is the Basement of the Shop where the demon is. Rihn told me about the basement being caves but I only found a little room. Did I miss something?

Then I returned and went to Westgate. Everything great this far, here you just love to have a Wild Mage with Create Magical Weapon and NRD memorized. I could create weapons with +3 enchantment for all my party so I managed to explore the area. I managed to win the battle in the store-house (thanks to Dirbet killing the wizard) and I could explore everything. Two bugs here: Rilithar was in the inn but I could not talk to him, and before going to the temple I tried to clean the barracks. No one talked to me, and only fought me when I casted Cloud Kill there but still no one talked and Captain Girana was unkillable and always had the blue circle even if I casted loads of spells on her.

After reloading (I just entered the barracks for proving) I went to the temple and entered the lateral door which leads to the Priestess of Shar. I won and there is where I am now. I will finish the module soon and will comment the rest but before I will comment about some NPCs:

Paraway: Some of his stories seems a little confusing but it's a lifesafer at the beginning of the Mod.

Althon: I like him a lot. I just want to see his storyline finished. It's very great character, congratulations to his writer. The only thing I don't like from him is his portrait, but that's a minor thing.

Aesdale: Appart from the bug of dumping out of party he is fine. He should claim his amulet and it not being sellable.

Blush: Her soundset is from Linu, priestess of Sehanine and she says her name. Blush follows Sune.

Vildamyr: Great too, his Con should be 16 at max, with 17 CON he doesn't gain more hit points than with 16.

Rivian: Fine and intriguing but a little bugged sometimes. After arriving at Westgate she keeps initiating dialog with "I don't have anything to say to you" looping forever. Can't kick from party either because if I do that, even if she is with the blue circle around, she doesn't tell me the joining/leaving dialog, continues with the looping talk and when I talk to her she has the same dialog options that when I am romancing her. I have reloaded many times and tried but it still happens. Besides if you join her in the Temple instead, she talks as if she had Enelya with her but she was unarmed.

Fal'astra: She is Neutral Good but her armor says that only evil characters can wear it. I don't know if this is a bug or she is really evil (some of her dialogs seems to suggest that though). Bug or intended?

I have met Erky, Blodget, Ilhara, Shadow, Dirbert and Rilitar too. They seem great but unfinished (something obvious because the mod is not finished yet) and there are all very interesting, especially Erky, a pity I had to dump him in order to continue with Althon and the rest, but he is very useful and friendly. When I finish it I will comment again what I think of the end of the module. Even if it has to be polished and debugged, it's well worth the effort of downloading and installing it. When it's fully finished, even if it is in three years time, it will be as good as SoA, at least for me.

As a final comment, I want to say that this great jewel has brought to me back the same feeling I had when I played BG for first time. Thanks a lot for that people! It's exciting and even if some areas are reused from other games I have played (PST, IWD, BG) I don't have the feeling that they don't belong there. The NPC's are great and I have the feeling that they are as originals as Bioware NPCs. I'm really waiting to see Ilhara and Chaarna's romance. The only thing that I don't like from some of them are the portraits but that's a personal opinion and I can simply change them. I really want this mod to be finished, I never played those modules in D&D (never played D&D actually) and I don't know what's going to happen next but everything is exciting for me. The dialog with Elminster is awesome! May be a later encounter with the Bhaalspawn party would be a great thing, even as an easter egg.

Thank you to all the authors for creating CA. You have earned a fan. I would like to help you with this great mod.

Bye, and sorry for the long post and possible typos/grammar errors, I'm not a native speaker. Good luck!

Edited for loads of typos, sorry if there still are many.

Some questions

06 August 2007 - 02:48 AM

Ok, as you know I finally got to install it and I'm playing without any problem. I have encounter a few glitches (I don't call them bugs) which I will describe here.

My progress so far is little. I'm currently in the Swamp (just started it) and I have to say that I'm enjoying it a lot, my party actually is: My Swasbuckler, Paraway, Dirbert, Aesdale, Blush and Athlon. I'm very intrigued of what is going to happen to poor and confident Aesdale (I thought that Athlon was his friend but we'll see).

As for BGI my main problem with this precious jewel (CA) is that there are lots of interesting NPCs and I cannot take all ot them with me. I plan to romance Rivian when I meet her so I'll have to drop another one. I know that Blush leaves and I'll take Vyldamir (need definetly a cleric) and to take Rivian as soon as possible I'll have to take Rhin with me (bye bye Athlon)... and I had to drop Shadow (liked her but I'm a thief) and Erky (I like him a lot).

My main question is: Where is Chaarna? I first met her in Oakthrust when she says that she is going to leave soon (just before I go to the ravine), then the little girl tells me about the flowers. I went through the ravine and citadel, found the flowers, returned, discover what happened and went to Saltmarsh. I haven't found her and I wanted her to join. Where is she? Can I still find her? Is she romanceable? Does she disappeared because I'm an elf?

This is my main concernd as I selected elf only to romance Rivian. I know that the mod is not finished yet and I believed that the only romance so far is Rivian's and you need to be an elf. Am I mistaken? Can I romance any other girl? (I know of Rilithar but his for females).

The glitches I found so far where only two:

   1) When you discover about Ned's loyalty in the caves, just after he leaves your party to do what you know, he came to me to talk just as if I had dropped him from the party, so I couldn't finish with him and take his equipment. He just disappeared. I did not reload so I don't know if reloading could have help.

   2) Just after Aesdale goes to "you-know-what" with Blush (after the first meeting) I went to the inn to rest and then meet them. As I was injured and I had to wait I slept (with the rest until healed option) and rested 16 hours. I went upstairs and met only Aesdale. He talked to Erky instead of my main PC, I got the normal talk until you can ask Blush what she can do. I had no responses because Blush wasn't even there. I noticed it was a glitch so I reloaded, did everything again but this time I unselected the "rest until healed" (just in case) and went upstair only with my PC, I met them both, talked to them and they joined (having to leave my dear Erky in the inn).

So far it's great. Thanks for making it.

How does Imprisonment work?

08 June 2007 - 02:29 AM

Ok, I know the base of that spell. Your enemy end imprisoned under the ground for ages until he/she is released by a freedom spell. Well, my question is: What happens with the imprisoned one? Does he/she stay alive all that time? Does he/she age as if he/she hasn't been imprisoned? Can you die if imprisoned? (I know how the game handles this, it is as if you died or you killed your enemy in terms of having to reload or earning XP)

Do you sense in any way (being a spellcaster or not) that near you is an imprisoned one?

I'm gathering some information about that spell as a possibly idea for my only-God-knows-when-it-will-be-done mod and I would thank as many information as possible.

Thanks in advance!
