Is renaming BGMain.exe bad after mod installs?

04 March 2013 - 10:00 PM

Main Question:

I've installed a shit ton of mods, I was wondering if renaming the BGMain.exe to something like BGMain2.exe will negatively affect the game in any way? I already started it up after doing that it and it ran fine, but I would like to know if there is something bad that I don't know about that could result from this.

As for the reason i'm doing what sounds pretty dumb:

Explanation So I was able to get identical installs on my friends' computers to play BG2 multi-player through GameRanger. GameRanger specifically requires the .exe of the game in order to run. I also use this program called MouseJail http://www.dr-hoiby.com/MouseJail/ for locking the cursor to my main screen to let me edge scroll while playoing BG2 on my dual monitor setup (great program btw!) However, in order for MouseJail to work it requires BG2 to be run off bgmain.exe's shortcut, which conflicts with GameRanger's requirement to be run off an .exe. So what I did was make a .bat file of the shortcut to replace bgmain.exe in the BG2 directory, but I had to rename the original bgmain.exe to bgmain2.exe for it to work. Works fine with GameRanger after the change.

I also have ToBex running in the background if it matters. It didn't seem to have any problems though. Sorry if the explanation seems confusing or complicated. Just figured I'd add some additional information if it helps. Thanks a lot for any help!
