Hmm, no further progress yet.
However, can you please try popping the following tp2 into your bg2 install directory (overwrite the existing), try and re-install in Italian language, and post the DEBUG file once you get the error again. All I have added is some extra PRINT so we can work out exactly at what instruction the installation stalls.

can this problem be solved using a previous version of BGT?
