Since i've lost patience with the BWP and my current problem with stuttering/fps hits so bad it gives me a headache, my daughter and grand-daughter are going to go through it for the old man and try to understand it all and fix me up. . They haven't bothered to register but they're reading through a lot of the information here and they had 2 questions from the install faq and the different versions so i logged to ask for them.
1)What is meant by bags of holding, as 1 point references that too many may cause problems?(my girls don't play so i had to explain about those) but even i didn't know what is considered a "bag of holding". Does it include just the namesake item? or does it also include things like gem bags, scroll cases, unlimited ammo pouches, ammo cases, potion cases and even this mule npc(though he is limited to 100 items max).
2)Which version is normally recomended for the best stability vs most content. I had used the "standard" version.
Also a question from me but that will help my girls, as again i lose patience going through all the discussions on a thread while looking for a specific answer(modding to me is like sitting in a room full of rocket scientists...that's a compliment to you folks btw). When a new install program is done(10.2 is current atm?) Do you have to do a completely new, fresh installation of BWP?.
thanx for your patience with my impatience folks

permanent item duplicated

Howdy! Wasn't sure where to put this so I dropped it in this forum thread. I've installed the standard version of the megamod and I've run into a small issue with a wolf companion mod item. Wolf companion Haiass comes with a chew toy which tells me the current level and stats of the wolf. Ive scoured the forums for this issue and unless I blinked and missed it, I haven't found a solution. The issue is that the chew toy is a permanent item and there is a duplicate item given to you after an encounter on one of the maps, west of Nashkel with a boy(demon) and his lost dog. The boy gives you a chew toy to allow his pet to follow you, which is the exact same item given to me with the companion mod. Now you see the problem, I have 2 slots taken up by the same permanent item. I tried looking for a cluacommand to remove or delete an item and can't find that either. Found every code to cheat or add items, but nothing to remove it.
Sorry for that long winded explanation of a simple problem. I don't doubt the solution is probably fairly simple but I just can't find said solution. thanks and cheers.

stuttering issue

After playing for some time with the the BG world and mods installed and other than 1-2 bugs, (1 about Melicamp the chicken which i copied down and sounds like and easy workaround, the other a script problem with a trainer in Candlekeep, between the Dwarf and the church, which i can avoid doing to get around that issue). Other than that, everything had been going swimmingly....until. After completing the Nashkel mines, I returned 1st to the Nashkel carnival, now that I had enough money to buy some of those unlimited ammo pouches, then to Nashkel. Everything seemed fine to that point, so as it was late and i was tired, I logged off. The following day I loaded the game and stutter, stutter everywhere. I found a few references to the stuttering issue, and forgive me, but i'm too old and non-tech savvy enough to go through all those hoops to try and fix this thing(assuming it was fixed after all that). That's not a reflection on anyone here or a beef against the program at all, i simply hate complicated things like following 30 steps to do this that and the other thing, much of which i don't understand. In my younger days it was not an issue, nowadays i just want to install things, make minor tweaks with patches and let's go!! play play play . I did run this thing called Ltest? but it failed to do anything and reported errors. *sigh*. Maybe i'll just play it the old fashioned way once and put the game away forever. Really am getting too old for gaming. But if someone knows a quick fix and can point me to it, i'd be grateful.
Fyi i started a new game and was going to run it through the same steps(other than the ammo pouches) to se if that was the probelm, or if i end up in the same situation, at the same place and time in the game.

issues at start of install
14 September 2011 - 08:04 AM
after hearing about this project and not having played bg1 or 2 for eons, i decided to give this a shot. i d-loaded what i think is the latest version(according to fileplanet) and followed (tried to) the instructions to the letter. problem was i ran into and issue right from the start. i followed all the steps(installing games/patches, starting new games and making a Q save on each one)installed bwp in the bg2soa fodler, then launched the bwsetup.vbs. got the initial screen where it asked whether i wanted to update and the instructions said to say yes. so i did......and i got this error:
Fetching program-updates failed.
Probably the required file for the BWS is not available at the moment.
Due to these circumstances some new additions and fixes may not be available for you.
Since this implies a high potential of errors, we advice you to close the application, wait a few minutes and try to execute the the application once more.
i retried over 30 times over a 2 day span and nothing, so i tried continuing anyways by relaunching but saying no. as far as i know, most of it seems to have worked as i started a new bg1 game and noticed changes right off.....but probably because of that initial error and skipping over it, i never got an actual menu asking me which mods to install or not install.
even after i skipped the initial phase to choosing "no", i ran into another problem with the updating url option it freezes and does nothing. again i skipped that part i got it to work and it installed mods. so obviously something didn't work for me so i guess i need to know wth i did wrong? do i in fact have the wrong version?(9-20110501)? i saw somewhere that an ipdate to 9.8 was done but i didn't find it in the d-loads section. i'd appreciate any help and if more info is required, please ask and i'll provide additional info.
as i said though, many of the mods seem to be working, but without a list i don't really know what i have(well i do somewhat after jarno mikkola kindly pointed me to the weidu file and also pointed to this forum to post issues). but some of the mods that have added some difficulty i'd like to drop as meeting a dread wolf on my 1st screen away from candlekeep with naught but a 1/4 staff and my skin proved too deadly(that and those bloody 1 shot archer npc's killing my party b4 i even get to them or cast a spell lol). what i've seen of the other mods so far though i like very much. using the bg2 graphics and interface is very nice and i've run into some new npc's, new quests in beregost and a few other things so far. really spruces up the old game quite a lot . cheers
ps forgive any typos. we're experiencing a freak september cold spell here and i'm shaking so bad my teeth hurt lol.
