In Topic: Can't summon monsters

22 July 2009 - 10:32 AM

For some reason, I have become unable to summon monsters. When I cast a summoning spell, it tells me that I can only control 5, despite the fact that I don't have any monsters currently summoned. I'm guessing a variable isn't getting decremented somewhere, but I have no idea where to look for that counter, or even if it's something I can change.

Still, having a conjurer in the party is pretty worthless if he can't, you know, summon things :D. Any ideas?

I've heard, you get this message too, if you left summoned creatures in other areas, because they don't go with you into another area. If you leave an area, your summons are still there until the summon-time went off. Therefore you can't summon new ones in another area until the old ones are gone. Could it be, that you have left existing summons behind you?

Greetings Leomar

Not unless I have summons lasting for days at a time. The last time I was successfully able to summon something was several (game) days ago.

In Topic: Quest "rescue Phaere from the Illithids" stucks

MantraSong, do you have the BG2 Fixpack beta component installed, too?

Looks like I do. From my weidu.log
~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #3 // BETA Core Fixes (please check the readme!): v8 BWP Ascension patch

Looks like that the problem is described here, too:
http://forums.pocket...ic,26506.0.html
And the gamer has not the BG2 Fixpack beta component installed.

I'm not sure that's the same problem. That looks like it refers to getting the eggs from Sola, this occurred out in the main underdark after I had defeated all the illithids and company.

Well, indeed, I found a bug corrected byf BG2 Fixpack that looks like the problem I encounter: http://www.gibberlin...k/docs_beta.php

Incapacitated Solaufein Breaks Ust Natha Quests

In the initial mission with Solaufein, you are tasked with rescuing Phaere. If Solaufein is incapacitated during the fight, Phaere's post-rescue dialogue will break when she tries to pass it off to Solaufein. Worse, this will cause the necessary variables to not be set correctly with no way of continuing the Ust Natha quests. Phaere will now check Solaufein to make sure he's not incapacitated and, if necessary, cast Dispel Magic on him.

However, the problem I encounter occurs every time I try this quest (even if Solaufein is not Incapacited).

So, I found a dirty, ugly hack that appears to get around this.

In shadowkeeper, I set the following variables:
udDrowPlot=5 (had to create)
SolaufeinJob=4

I then talked to Sola, who initiated the "meet me back in the city" dialog, and from there the game seems to be flowing correctly.

I suspect the problem is deeper that just fixing those two variables, and I don't mind doing some detective work if someone will point me in the direction of how, but since this is otherwise a showstopper sort of bug, I thought I'd post my workaround.

Correction, it does happen when I don't ctrl-R. I've now had it happen to my main character, to which the only solution was to reload a saved game.

Why you ctrl-R'ed her? Did you do that everytime? What happens if you do fight normally, without ctrl-R?

Greetings Leomar

Every time I've encountered the problem, I've used ctrl-r (for healing purposes). If I don't use ctrl-R, the domination (actually Dire Charm, I think), wears off normally.

I've solved the problem for now by kicking her out, at which point she becomes non-hostile again, and goes through her "why are we splitting ways" dialog. After that, I can ask her to rejoin, no problems.
