IWD1 Backstab or Sneak Attack

Just curious which is more useful in IWD1. A few things I've noticed about stealth thus far is that its a bit bugged. It takes 6-10 sec sometimes for stealth to engage. Once this happens, monsters will go after your party even if they're on the other side of the map. I haven't tried sneak attack yet so I figured I would ask. Thanks.
Paralytic Toxin

I'm trying out the RR bounty hunter. I never played the vanilla version so I can't really make a comparison. But so far its been a blast and the traps have worked great so far. My only issue is with paralytic toxin. I like the concept but is there anyway to extend the duration in future releases? I mean the issue is that thieves don't have great THACO to begin with much less many APR. So honestly it rarely goes off. Just my 2 cents. I'm pretty early into my game but that's what I've noticed thus far.
Potential Bugs

Didn't know whether I should list these in the 3.01 thread since the current version is newer and that older thread is pretty dated. At any rate, I just tried the mod tonight and I came across these 2 potential bugs so far:
-The paralyze portion of the assassin's nerve poison ability doesn't work it seems. The paralyze effect will go off but the monster continues to chase me around. I've tried it several times and get the same problem everytime.
-The raging mind poison causes the game to crash

Installation question

The readme says to install rogue rebalancing mod first followed by refinements. On the rogue rebalancing mod forum it aVENGER says this:
Refinements Mod note:
Since Rogue Rebalancing further expands the Bard and Thief HLA tables as of v4.0 a very specific install order is now required in order to achieve full compatibility with the Refinements mod. For best results you need to:
1) Install all of RR except for the "Thief High Level Ability revisions" and "Bard High Level Ability revisions" components
2) Install Refinements
3) Install RR's "Thief High Level Ability revisions" and "Bard High Level Ability revisions" components
So do I just install all of RRM followed by refinements or do I install these mods the way aVENGER suggests?

I'm trying this ability out for the first time. It took me many tries before I was even successful at making one. I eventually succeeded and made lastfall. The potion is now in my bag but its highlighted red suggesting I can't use it. How do I apply it to a weapon?
EDIT- I figured it out. I had to take the HLA use scrolls. Kind of odd though. Is this intended?
