In Topic: Problems starting BGT

Okay, I first tried the quick fix and patched the BGmain.exe with the setup-BGTmusic.exe and I actually was able to get the game to start okay. Unfortunately, at the same time, it uninstalls my widescreen mod and everything looks all squashed on the screen - not optimal.

Then I sucked it up and did yet another brand new install and followed all your advice: installed in a non "program files" folder, installed ToBExtender and cut back on the NPCs.

I had no installation issues at all but when I tried to start the game with both ToBloader and BGmain I still got no result.

As before, the err file is empty but I've attached my weidu file and here is my ini file: Hopefully you can figure it out. :-)

Thanks again.

The err file was empty.

As I mentioned, I didn't install the ToBExtender as it has given so many problems before so I tried the BGT music patch. I did that and now I get the following error at startup:

An assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 628
Programmer says: Unable to Open BIF:DATA\TB#GEN28.BIF

Also, if you think this songlist is an issue, is there one of the mods I can leave off my install list to prevent this from happening?

Thanks again!

In case the BG2 game crashes, open up the 'baldur.ini' in your game folder, and under the [Program Options] section in the file, make a new line and type in 'Logging On=1' (without the '' quotes, unless the line is already there)... Save the file and exit. Now go back into the game and try to reproduce the crash. Then look in your game folder again for the Baldur.err file and open it with the Notepad to analyze its contents, or let us do it.

Always post the contents of your baldur.err in the case of crashes. I seem to be repeating this like 5 times every time I log on here :P .

So do that, and you might get something in the baldur.err file... if you still don't, my guess is that your songlist.2da is overflown and the game won't start because of that. It has two common cures: the ToB Extender can patch the BGMain.exe so that it loads bigger songlist.2da's or you just have to install the setup-BGTmusic.exe that overwrites the current songlist.2da file, so that game loads at least something(which makes this worse solution by far). But that's just a guess, so...
