Ah, he has the hand of some monster equipped to his ring slot that reduces his constitution by a certain amount. My character is an Inquisitor and I have Keldorn int he party so we use a lot of Dispel Magic which restores my main character's Con whilst getting rid of the AC bonus. When I reload the con penalty probably reinstates itself thus reducing his HP to negative levels.
