The exact location of the Vault is in Ogre's Reach north of the Gnoll Fortress (AR3499). You must talk to Huspar and the Priest of Gond AND have the Vampiric Sword with you for a guy called the Vault Sentry to appear

If you only knew someone in Baldur's Gate with the power of divination...

The only one I know is the guy in the tent, and he didn't reveal the location, only that the sword is a key to a great treasure.

I am willing to be spoiled at this point. I don't know why everyone has to be so coy about this one point.

I'm stuck. I had the book stolen and tracked it down to the Nashkel mines. I went all the way through and killed all the Drow. In the penultimate level there was a Drow cleric who told me Bhaal should mind his own business. There was a journal update saying I found the book, but I didn't. It wasn't on any bodies. There was no container in the area. There was no-one in the final level or in Mulahey's lair. Am I mising something obvious, or is it messed up?

Also, and maybe I'm just dumb, but where is the vault? I've talked to every priest and wizard I can find. So far I've figured out that it is on an island, but I haven't found any clues as to where this island might be or how I can get to it.

If so, it might be from Moinesse's BAMs. None of these are really usable as-is though, as all the offsets would have to be changed to get them to display properly in-game (and there are 23 rings alone).

If not, could be from anywhere. Kinda hard to tell without more description.

I have a vague recollection of using some utility to modify them for some reason. But that's part of the problem: my memory is so vague. It's been at least five years since I messed with them. I do remember that several of them were relatively simple with a single stone, in several colors.

Anyway, it's not so important that I find the exact same collection, as that I find something to replace some of the rings with. The sample you showed looks nice. It would appear that Moinesse's collection is no longer available online. Might you be able to send them to the e-mail address in my profile?
