"You shall fear magic!"

17 May 2004 - 02:01 AM

Well, this is something I brought up at the PBG forums a long time ago. I happened to check that thread today, and someone had apparently suggested that I'd forward my suggestion here.

The idea was basically to have spells that would lower a target enemy's resistance to fire, cold, acid, poison or electric magic, or all of them at once (there's certainly room for multiple versions of these spells). Maybe also resistance to magical energy.

I suppose balancing is up to the mod makers, so I'll just stick to why I feel this mod would be necessary:

- Bob the 1337 Pyromancer doesn't want to jump elements just because a foe happens to be fire resistant. Bob wants to lower this monster's fire resistance.
- In ToB, far, faaaaar too many monsters (bosses) have 90% resist everything except magical energy. I don't really feel it's fun with get-off-as-many-horrid-wiltings-as-possible-in-one-round contests. There is a great reserve of level 1-5 spells that aren't cast at all. If we threw in some of these spells here, let's say at third level, then the rest of the spell levels would also be automatically useful again, save against monsters immune to level x-y spells.

For something to start with, check Firkraag. IIRC, he uses a spell called "Lower Fire Resistance". :)

Edit: I have no idea if you could call this a mod at all, but heck, it would be an improvement.

Peanelian

18 June 2003 - 10:31 AM

Peanelian sometimes attacks me after all monsters are dead. I don't do anything to provoke the attack. In fact, the loyal creature stays green even if I attack it (which is sometimes required cause P has a long summon timer).

He/She (it's a he I presume, so I'll refer to P as he) usually says "slay the child of darkness!" before he attacks, which is also what someone (Boz?) in the Underdark says before they attack you. Yes, I'm referring to the party of mixed creatures that attacks you when you leave Ust'Natha to rescue Phaere. Does Peanelian have an opressed desire to slay Bhaalspawns? Something to do with Arilistan? Err...

On a side note, Peanelian rocks - but has a low hp, and I appreciate that. Very neat. I'm just wondering if it won't be too easy when Aerie can cast Regeneration on him...

How far can I take Aerie's romance...

17 June 2003 - 08:53 AM

Hey, okay topic says it all I think, but anyway

I use an all-mage party, and Aerie has gone on her whining rampage. Ha. Ha. Well seriously, I don't want to fall in love with Aerie, but I don't want to make her sad. However, if there's a point where I must tell Aerie to shut up or something, in order to keep Tashia romancable, then I suppose I have to. I just told Aerie she is still a beautiful elf, even without her wings. Is it too late?

Tashia

17 June 2003 - 02:40 AM

Hello, first of all, I don't know if this is the right forum for this, so if it isn't, teleport it...

I tried out the Tashia mod or whatever you'd call it some time ago, but got bored of BG2. Now I decided to try it again, and this new portrait she has sucks :(

Is there a way to get the old one back? You know... garbed in white... looking over her shoulder... sad or pondering something...
