Whilst a one trick pony (similar to Minsc in that effect) HK-47 is indeed funny 
But gameplay wise useless - still he's great for banters

When I first got him on my party, he was just another character who I needed to progress. I found him kinda dull.
Then I realised what a swell guy he is. HK-47 is incredibly fun.

Of course I like'em! He's HK-47! A down right hilarious fellow. Plus, I, personally, thought he was invaluable in battle. No other long ranged companion I'd want at my side! He and Big Z stuck by me the whole time!

Uh!? I think HK-47 is very useful in game!!! it all depends on the skills you choose for him when you level him up, in kotor you have a wider selection than in bg2 for example... i always play with 2 chars, myself and HK-47. I take all the persuading and healing and he takes all the computing.

I agree with Immortality. He's the best shooter in the game, if you upgrade him. Impossible to hit and enourmous BAB, for a ranged shooter.
And, he's hilarious.

at the end of the game HK did 6-30 damage with his Jamoh Hogra's (whatever) Carbine. A fun droid. Reminds me of a butler. An evil butler.

I dont like him. The fact that you need to have such a high repair skill (a more or less useless skill in KotOR 1, at least) to unlock his dialogs kinda detracted from him, and personally I found his dialog to be annoying once the novelty wore off.

Me? I actually do like T3, more so than HK-47. Hes not one for dialog either, though

I just completed KOTOR and liked HK-47. For the most part, I took along him and Juhani, and HK provided ranged support, as well as computer skills. The fact he regenerates was also good.
There were a few times in which my living party members were incapacitated by hostile Force powers, and HK proved useful then, as he was unaffected by lots of them. The upgrades you can get from the Yavin merchant helped a lot too...

on my time on kotor, i find very usefull to have an sarcastic, flamethrowing merciless protocol droid.
i finished the game multiple times and i stated one just to clear his repairing thing.
before u hes was owned by an czercka officer, an senator , an hutt and a mandalorian. apparently he killed all of them by accident.
so hes not just sarcastic, flamethrowing merciless protocol droid, hes also an master killer who (thank god) havent killed me.
and the funnier charachter on the game.
