It's a great ensemble cast of personality-defective misfits. Canderous, the over-the-hill warhorse with a mid-life crisis; Mission, the lippy kid with a broken home; Jolee, a recluse living on grief and guilt; HK-47, a psychopath whose very existence is illegal; Zaalbar, a titan with self esteem below sea level; Juhani, with her wrath and her memories; Carth, traumatised from war and loss; and Bastila, caught in a serious inferiority complex. And then there's T3-M4, who must be insane to hang around this crew. I'm not even going to get started on their leader
Heh, looking at this description, I predict that my reactions will be as following:
Canderous - I will get bored with him/her
Mission - I will absolutely despise the character (especially if she has the scottish accent)
Jolee - I will like him/her
HK-47 - I will not be able to stand him
Zaalbar - I will be the only person alive who would like him....
Juhani - I will like her
Carth - I will probably love him to death...
Bastila - I will get bored with him/her
T3-M4 - I will forget to pick him up...
Though it's not much description to go on. BTW, is there a site with good character profiles?

You could always try this: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Rebublic

HK was funny, but even those "meatbag" comments get humdrum after a while.

As far as I can see Bio never has good full info on characters But so far I really like Carth, feel unhappy that I will have to keep Mission around (hopefully there is another rogue available later on) and I wish I could keep Zaalbar, he is rather nice. If there is a game that asks for a mod of having more people in the party it's KOTOR!

Well, you are going to like Carth even more later on, I'll promise
Though you can always switch between NPCs (though I wouldn't switch Carth off too often...).
And give Jolee and Juhani a go, and try them too.

Two soldiers. One scoundrel. One scout. One Jedi Sentinel, one Jedi Guardian, one Jedi Consular. One combat droid. One expert droid. That's all the party-joinables in KotOR.(hopefully there is another rogue available later on)
There some reason you can't?I wish I could keep Zaalbar

Am a scout myself and would like to see Carth's romantic sequence, so need a rogue to balance the party (locks, mines and stuff)...
Zaalbar can remove mines and you can just use some skillpoints to make him pick locks... He is a scout, which are the most roguelike characters in the game.

You're thinking way too much like D&D. Disarming mines is a class skill for Soldiers (like Carth, and Canderous for that matter). I listed eight classes, so of course there's no way you can have a representative of each in your three-person party.Am a scout myself and would like to see Carth's romantic sequence, so need a rogue to balance the party (locks, mines and stuff)...

Heh, I understand that, but I still refer to scoundrels as rogues, to scouts as rangers and to soldiers as fighters With 8 classes available I think it is more intersting to have NPCs of different classes in the party without duplicating your PC (even if it is not exact duplication). I have never warmed up to NWN where everybody can do everything but you are limited to having only one-and-a-quarter character. Here, you at least can have two
Yeah but in the Starwars d20 system classes ain't all that important. Zaalbar can become much better at hand-to.hand damage than most others, even though he is a rogue. Classes really just decide hit points (which Zaalbar gets from his con anyways) skill points (hoo-ray!) and feats (which is why soldiers rock).
So even though Zaalbar is a rogue-like class he is a surperior fighter too...

The sole thing that poses as a real threat to the roleplaying in KoToR is that Jedi characters get overwhelmingly powerful compared to "normal" NPCs later on - and that means a lot when it comes to somewhat harder battles. Sadly enough, in KoToR1, ranged characters suffer even more - while lightsabers (and even melee weapons) get boosted to powerful levels, ranged weapons (even the most powerful heavy blasters) are miserably weak in the later parts of the game. Luckily this has been corrected in KoToR2.
of course, kse and other tricks allow you to change carth, canderous, mission and others into jedi...

Well, judging from the movies it is somewhat 'realistic', because Jedi are insanely more powerful than 'normal' fighters... I am actually interested to see 'melee over ranged' as opposite to BG where an archer is a god.

Well, you will.I am actually interested to see 'melee over ranged' as opposite to BG where an archer is a god.
But won't enjoy it that much once you see how useless your (otherwise interesting) ranged NPCs become once you have more jedis in the party.
Yes, but that just isn't the same thing. Ranged characters in KoToR1-2 are fun (especially in 2, where they can actually be used efficiently).of course, kse and other tricks allow you to change carth, canderous, mission and others into jedi...
