The problem with FR gods is that are too mortal in the way they act and so forth that's what I find weird

It's not weird considering the vast majority of deities (well, human ones at least) once were mortals. This includes Azuth, Bane, Bhaal, Cyric, Deep Duerra, Deneir, Finder Wyvernspur, Gwaeron Windstrom, Kelemvor, Kiaransalee, Myrkul, Mystra (second and third), the Red Knight, Shevarash, Siamorphe, Torm, Uthgar, Valkur, Velsharoon, Waukeen, and numerous others.

Have you got any info. on those two?

Hoar is the human deity of revenge, retribution and poetic justice, while Shevarash is the elven deity of hatred of the drow, vengeance, military crusades, loss, revenge. Both are CN demipowers.

Basically Shar is attempting to corrupt both of them so their portfolios become vengenace, punishment, wrath and hatred, and they switch to CE. Shar's probably hoping that a CE Shevarash would kill Eilistrae (who he barely tolerates at the moment), as she's a close ally of two of Shar's most hated enemies, Mystra and Selune.

In the case of Hoar, Tyr is working against Shar in the hopes of converting him to CG, with his portfolio becoming poetic justice, irony and recompense. No-one seems to be working to stop Shar's corruption of Shevarash; in fact, not even the Seldarine seem to have notice that it's going on.

:( little is known... they were not allies I think they just tolerated eachother. Talos is CE and Bhaal LE so those two had surely an ideologic conflict.

Behavioral patterns taken from Greek mythology obviously. It's nothing new. And in my opinion, it seems to work fine for the fans. Otherwise your stuck with a very boring Ao type set of gods. (ie: all powerful, all knowing, all blah blah blah etc...) ;)

aaaaaah, I didn't realise this, how do you know this though. Are they in the various D&D books or are there stories detailing this in the FR books.

I know about kelemvor, Cyric and Mystra but |I didn't realise for the others. I guess the gods really do have a high mortality rate :D

@Consis

I guess so, they need elements that people can relate to (love...etc) otherwise they seem too otherworldly and displaced like Ao

Finder Wyvernspur, the Red Knight and Velsharoon are all pretty recent, I believe they're all in various novels. Finder is in Finder's Stone trilogy, but I'm not sure about the other two. The other deities once being mortal I got from Faiths & Avatars, Powers & Pantheons and Faiths & Pantheons.

BTW, according to Arcane Age: Netheril, which is set a couple of years before BG2, only 10 human deities existed at that time: Janath (now known as Chauntea), Jergal, Kozah (who may or may not be Talos), Lathander, Moander, Mystryl, Selune, Shar, Targus (who I believe is now Tempus) and Tyche (who later split into Beshaba and Tymora).

The other deities who've appeared need not neccessarily be former mortals, however. They could be interlopers from other worlds and planes (e.g. Akadi, Grumbar, Istishia, Kossuth, Sharess and Tyr), children of deities (e.g. Lurue and Mielliki), demons who've achieved godhood (Gargauth), etc.

I dont like to nitpick, but Gargauth is a devil :o

Lathander in Netheril? I thought that he was Amaunator at that point (same god, sort of).

And Netheril is many years before BG2

Ah well, btw, what are the differences between planetars and devas?

Plantars are the generals of the angel armies. They also often help powerful mortals on good missions or crusades. They escpecially enjoy fighting fiends. Planetars are exceptions magic users but much prefer fighting with their greatswords. Planetars are tall muscled humaniods with emerald colored skin and white feathered wings

Astral devas watch over lesser being of good alignment. The especially watch over planet travelers and those who take up the cause of good. Astral devas are beautiful humaniods with long feathered wings. They are not afraid of melee combat and indeed enjoy bashing the forces of evil with their heavy maces.

Solars are the greatest of all angels. They are holy crusaders and can often be found at the side of a deity. They specialize in elimating a specific type of evil. or wrongdoing. Solars stand 9 ft tall will bright topaz eyes, golden or silver skin, and white feathered wings. Their voices are deep and commanding. Solars are unmatched except by deities and the highest devils. There are to be feared when they weild their greatswords and can cut any creature in half. Even more frightening than their greatswords are their longbows. Solars are deadly archers with unparrallelled aim and accuracy. When the string of their bow is drawn any arrow the solar wishes will instantly form

they became 'fallen' after they betrayed heaven and roughly speaking, they are indeed the opposites for their 'good' brothers... nice example is the fallen deva Trias from PS: T

I am immortal! I am the One, Most Mighty, Highest of the High, the Dark Sun, the Black Sun, the Lord of Three Crowns, and the Prince of Lies!

I have mod with a Jester praying to Cyric, but if I'm correct he is the god of Death, murder and insanity. Lies are also a topic, but they are actually more for Basheba

Still modding the Mod for the Wicked... It is a big project you know... And I got sidetracked (several times) a bit... sorry.

Cyric is the god of Strife and Tyranny (inherited from Bane), Murder (Bhaal), Deception and Illusion (Leira), Intrigue (Mask). He was also the god of Dead (Myrkul) but has lost this portfolio to Kelemvor

Heh you can tell I typed that post late at night, that should have been "Amauntor (precursor to Lathander)" ;)

And Netheril is many years before BG2

You forgot lies ;). Also, I don't think he's ever had tyranny - that was passed from Bane to Iyactu Xvim. When Bane returned, he took tyranny and hatred back from the now dead Xvim, and managed to regain strife from Cyric. He also gained fear from someone, though I'm not sure who had it previously.

hmm... so the fact that all the summoned (fallen) devas, (dark) planetars and (anti)solars are female in BG II is just coincidence? (seeing as you used the male pronoun)

But on Bhaal... so in official FR timeline, nothing has happened with him or his progeny and portfolio yet? (other than it being taken by Cyric).
