Mates, I need your help a little bit. Where Balors can be killed for good ? I knew that Balors can be slained forever only in the Abyss, but Jinnai says I'm wrong. Does anyone know the truth ???

In 3rd Edition: They can be killed anywhere, but it would depend on how they got to where you fought them at. if they were Summoned, they would go back to the abyss, but if they were Called, they would die.
In 2nd Edition: Partly yes. I cant recall exactly, Ive given my 2e books on permanent loan. At least, long term loan
In 1st Edition: There were no Balors in first Edition. There were class 5 demons, I think, and they were unique. I dont have a 1e Monster Manual, but I believe I heard this once.

Balor was an individual name of a Type VI demon in 1st edition. When 2nd edition came out demons were offically renamed to Tanar'ri, and the type numbers where droped in favor of names. alor stopped being a proper name and now defines a whole class of creatures.
Anyway, in 2nd edition it is generally only possible to permanently slay a balor (or most any other Tanar'ri) while it is on the Abyss. If it is slain off of the abyss, it will eventually reform itself back on the Abyss.
There are always exeptions however. Rare powers and abilities that are capable of blasting a creature's life force out of existance will prevent reformation. If no life force/speirt/soul/whatever goes back, there is nothing to reform. These powers tend to be rare, and a good chunk of them won't work on a Balor anyway.
