The PSQ version comes with an in-game book of instructions. Equip and use the book, gain the ability, read the book to see what materials you need (an unenchanted sword / plain gold ring / whatever), go to the furnace room, and use the furnace.

ok I did all that and nothing happens when I select the furnace, I just get the furance is now functioning.
I read the book, I used the abilitie and I have a gold ring in my inventory
