Well, its fantasy... but I never liked it when they mixed fantasy and sci-fi.

Yeah, dragons in space, pfffft ;)

Apart from Tyr are any other deities from Earth (actually came from Earth, not the ideas/concepts behind them).

Thanks in advance

I'm just curious, has anyone heard of an overpower for everything? I mean, Ao and the others like him only control a single sphere. Powers that have a large number of worshippers on the Outer or Inner Planes (like Celestian) wouldn't have to worry about them too much.

Thats a bit of a complicated one. The way i see it is that the portfolio overlap is allowed because they were interloper pantheons (i think if they had tried to insuniate themselves into the pantheon individually then they would have failed miserably).

You have to remember that their worshippers were kidnapped, and thrust into a godless society. They were therfore unaware of the existing Faerun pantheon so they fell back on what they knew, ie, their own gods. AO knows of their plight so makes the offer to the Mul/Unther pantheons to journey to Faerun (of course, they have to make the trip via Spelljamming because the Imaskari have sealed the regular route...which would be *poof*, 'I'm here, worship me'

There's no overlap, because the Mulhorandi gods only have power in Mulhorand and Unther, and the FR gods don't have any influence there, just as they have no influence in Maztica or Kara-Tur.

Of course, some gods (such as Sharess/Bast) are in both pantheons.

So a cleric from Amn would be powerless in Kara-Tur?

I don't think so. I mean, clerics don't lose all their spells when in the realm of an opposing deity.

Ok, but the cleric can't expect direct intervention from his patron when in Kara-Tur.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the clerics of Helm in Maztica have no spellcasting ability, but I can't find where I read it ATM :).

Everything I've read in Planescape says that Priests have full access to their spells on all Prime worlds. I guess this is another case of them making special rules up as the go along. *cough*shadowweave*cough*

IIRC the thing about still getting spells even when not in the deity's domain only applies to other planes, not other parts of the Prime. So a cleric of Mystra would still have her spells in the Abyss, but not if she travelled to Krynn (though she has the option of adopting a native god with a similar portfolio, e.g. Lunitari in this case).

Aber-Toril is probably one of the few worlds where different sets of deities cover different parts of the same world.

What about planewalkers ie mages? When they enter Krynn do they have access to their spells? Seems illogical if the Weave maintained by Mystra gives spells to the mages only when they are on Faerūn. Or can arcane spellcasters link directly to the Weave of Magic and cast spells anywhere without any god's allowance?

Arcane casters have to obey the rules of magic for whatever Plane they are on, but they don't lose all their magic just because they went travelling. Well, not unless they get close to the Spire in the Outlands, but even Powers lose their magic there.

Some worlds have little or no magic, so if a mage travelled there they wouldn't be able to cast any spells. Similarly, some worlds have so much magic that if an unsuspecting mage from another world tried to cast a spell there, the magical energies would completely overwhelm him.
