Well the "stats" as you say for the gods are really more for the occational high level play. ocationally you do need some stats. (example the official campaign where you save Waukeen)
Once again, i agree that most persons would retire their characters sometimes before lvl20 at least, (or should, depending). But there are those that are more interested in hacking things to bits than roleplaying and when there is nothing else to keep them hacking, send in a few avatars.
different people/players/dm's different tastes.
EDIT: anyone want a good way to kill of a bunch of Munchkin players, let Mystr and Tempus temp ally against palyers and send one avatar of each. usually enough to stopp anything. Mystra makes tehm unable to use magic at all, and Tempus just really rules the combat.

To kill a god totally is a bit more tricky.
By the way, how could you kill a god ???

EDIT: /me whacks faulty ramchip with a IBM harddrive!
as far as i know, it has only been accomplished twice (Forgotten Realms). once when the three mortals named Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul sought out and challenged the god Jergal to take hes power. and Second time when Mystra, Oghma, the then non godly Kelemvor and a few others i dont remember atm charged down into the realm of teh dead to Dethrone Cyric, he fled rather than fight. There might be more but those are the ones i have seen. Time of Troubles was something completelly different.
EDIT: Cyric, yeah i was just about to edit that in .... about lack of followers....

Letting you know you're the next one dead
I am the blade that cuts your skin
That forgives yourself for all your sin
I am the guilt that gnaws your soul
Corrodes the heart to a gaping hole
The hammers pounding all around
So you beat the walls to rid the sound
I am your memories, distorted and loud
That make you scream and shreik aloud
Yes, I make you crazy, it's all my fault
That we're here alone in this cushoined vault

Also, the more powerful god, the less time it needs to replace an avatar that's been destroyed. An entire year for a demipower, a month for a lesser power, a week for an intermediate power and only a day for a greater power.A lesser power can have 2 avatars at the same time, an intermediate power 5 and a greater power 10.

Good calls: Kelemvor 16, Correllon 19 and Torm 8.Don't forget Shar is something like the second oldest deity in all of Aber-Toril, being older than the world itself, etc.
Kelemvor: I'd say 16 or 17.
Correllon: 18 or 19?
Torm: 8 or 9?

How many worlds do the gods take charge over? Is it just Aber-Toril or are there others?

There are some worlds that don't have any gods, f.ex Athas (Dark Sun), and AFAIK no deities have power in the void between solar systems (called "crystal spheres")

Does Spelljammer take place in the void between spheres or inside the spheres?
Where is it rumoured that Ravenloft exists, I think it can be reached from anywhere
I heard somewhere that Chaos was rumoured to be the brother of Ao or something and the being that talks to Ao at the end of te Avatar series is the DM

Spelljammer takes place in both; it would be a bit boring without any planets, and they obviously need to cross something to get from one sphere to another.
Ravenloft is another plane of existence (or rather, demiplane), and can be reached from any other plane of existence which it's connected to. This includes the Prime Material Plane, where Aber-Toril, Krynn, Oerth, Athas, etc are located.
Ao's master being the DM is only one interpretation, though it seems to be the most popular.

They can be any, I have read of human priests/priestesses of GondThis isn't really a question about a god but about his followers (close enough on be on topic, I hope): can priests of Gond be of any race or must they be gnomes?
