Wiser Clerics, Smarter Mages...

so how about a component that adds spell slots the higher the intelligence a mage has???
or charisma, if you want to follow 3rd edition rules...
and to keep it all balanced, the lower the wisdom you have, or lower the intelligence you have, the greater the chance for a miscast spell...
my mages and sorcs emphasize strength and dex, with some wisdom, since int is simply only useful for scribing scrolls...and wish spell, of course...but since the manual emphasizes int for mages/sorcs, and wisdom for clerics, why not make it conform to the classical roleplay aspects of ad&d???
i mean i actually give the int bonuses in watchers keep to my fighters, to fight mindflayer int drain...and give the str bonuses to my mages so they can carry more loot...
it just makes more sense...

ok, we all know higher wisdom means more cleric spell slots...but intelligence is almost a non factor in mages..in fact, the dumber a sorc is, the better...(as long as you have 12 int, you can use scrolls and items...)
The level and the number of the spells you can scribe depends on your intelligence.

right...so everyone carries around int potions for scribing scrolls, but you don't need them to CAST spells...and that's what i'm going for , making int important when casting them...ok, we all know higher wisdom means more cleric spell slots...but intelligence is almost a non factor in mages..in fact, the dumber a sorc is, the better...(as long as you have 12 int, you can use scrolls and items...)
The level and the number of the spells you can scribe depends on your intelligence.

don't know...hmmm...can anyone confirm this??? i'm pretty sure sorcs don't have this problem..i've played some dumb sorcs in my time...Hmm, isn't INT affecting the Spellcasting Failure factor? I remember that low INT mages had noteable spellcasting difficulties..

Minsc has never failed a spell (except for Insect Plague or damage, of course) and is a ranger (same rules as priest without the bonus spells) with 6 WIS. But anyway, a player-created ranger has wis >=14, so Minsc is a cheese factory anywaywisdom affects spell failure (for clerics?) but not intelligence.
The Druidic sorceror uses script to give bonus spells slots from CHA and WIS, but this works only on creation (or the script would be a nightmare both to write and for the parser:
IF
CheckStat(Myself,WISDOM,1)
Global("currentwis","locals",0)
THEN
RESPONSE #100
SetGlobal("currentwis","locals",1)
ApplySpellRES("wis1",Myself) //wis2to1 = bonus to appropriate spell slots & misc bonuses
END
[list for Stat:Wisdom 1 to 25)
IF
CheckStat(Myself,WISDOM,1)
Global("currentwis","locals",2)
THEN
RESPONSE #100
SetGlobal("currentwis","locals",1)
ApplySpellRES("wis2to1",Myself) //wis2to1 = appropriate modifiers from 2 wis to 1 wis
END
IF
CheckStat(Myself,WISDOM,1)
Global("currentwis","locals",3)
THEN
RESPONSE #100
SetGlobal("currentwis","locals",1)
ApplySpellRES("wis3to2",Myself)
ApplySpellRES("wis2to1",Myself)
END
[list for Stat(wisdom) 1 to 25, [list for "currentwis" 1 to 25]]
Definitely maddening, IMHO

Is not Insect Plague a level 5 spell ? How was Minsc able to cast it ?Minsc has never failed a spell (except for Insect Plague or damage, of course) and is a ranger (same rules as priest without the bonus spells) with 6 WIS.
