Hey, girlfriend!! I didn't realize that they had internet connections on ocean liners.. Cruising the south seas, yet?? (I am GREEN with envy... )Argh! One more day! One more! I'm having trouble finding things to do until that glorious moment when I can read the last chapter. And, two parts? Cruel! (But so good...)
Yep... One more teensy-weensy day.. And, it's too long for one posting.
Good to see your face here, my friend. Missed you!!

No, not yet. I leave on Thursday. And even then, I will still be able to read Part 2, now that I have found the Apple store in Ala Moana (where they don't seem to mind my popping in just to check my e-mail). Can I tell you how relieved I am that I won't miss the last bit of your story? B)Hey, girlfriend!! I didn't realize that they had internet connections on ocean liners.. Cruising the south seas, yet?? Sorry you have to wait. Doggone... Well one good thing. You'll be able to read both parts back-to-back and not have to wait.
As for your exams -- hey, good luck. We're all pulling for you!

And Aran conveniently has something else to do that morning? Why do I get the feeling he's on to Glory's little plan. But then wouldn't he have called her on it? I'm itching to know what he's up to.
Ribald seems a rather rustic and likeably character. Although 'Missy' is not my first choice of nic name.
And now a secret enterance to Glory's office? I wonder it that's in Aran's files....
Well, I'll be waiting "paciently" until tomorrow.....

I don't like this story. I think the pacing's off and the action's slow. Do we really need to know every last detail? Capping scenes with a hook or something necessary to the plot helps catch interest.
Another thing that's bugged me since the beginning is this story's perfection. Morningglory Gaeston has a habit of being at the right place at the right time and speaking the right thing to the right people. Any conflict her character could have is pretty much negated by the crowd she keeps. Waukeen, anyone? She's so much of a Mary Sue that it's getting painful to read. (Poster and main character having the same name doesn't help.) Pushing the Aran infatuation might help--making everyone pissed that she's going after the illithid would help a lot. There I see conflict. Morningglory wasting away as a brain slave, Aran and Hendak going to rescue her and eventually fighting because of their mutual love for her, etc.
I liked the Angst and the Analyst. Yeah, the same flaws were there, but there was enough action to keep me hooked and the Mary Sue wasn't as much of a problem because the story was more Riona and Anomen's than Morningglory's. This last part had several jumps, more than any other part in the serial. Faster jumps means faster pacing, and faster pacing means better hooks.
Or maybe it's just me. Dunno.

I tried to count how long we had to wait for this conclusion. SIX MONTHS (rough estimation)!!! And that is just cruel! I usually don't read more parters before I was able to acquire all parts. If I like it, and I cannot read on, it drives me mad.
Since no one stated a change in me yet, I assume people got used to my general madness and the delay in Mind Games didn't affect me to the point where people would hail for the guys in white cloaks.
Now, take care of you and your ISP, I'm dying to know how Glory does as adventuress.

I guess you will find out what AL is up too soon enough..MG, you are just torturing me here! MorningGlory spends the whole chapter in as much suspense as we do. Tease!

And remember.... patience is a virtue...

Thank you for your candor, Pirengle. But if you disliked it so much in the beginning, why waste your time continuing to read it? Usually if I find something so disagreeable, I usually put it down and don't pick it up again.I was going to wait until all the story had been posted, but I just read the first new part in ~4 months and needed to squeak.

Not all stories are for everyone and this seems to be not your cup of tea. May I make a suggestion? I would heartily suggest that you simply skip the last segment and and the complete next two stories and save yourself some grief. I have a feeling you won't like them any more than this one and might not be worth your effort.

not only do you finish with one incredible journey, a tale i can now sit down and read from start to finish, and savor every edible morsel and bite, you put EVERYONE into another cliff hanger...
MORE SOON!!! please??? i can even predict that dr. glory will join the expedition to harry the demon lord...now the council of 6 OWES her, and they better cough up support...
you were giggling as you wrote the last lines weren't you??? you knew exactly how we (your adoring and much suffering fans) would react...
of course the entire series was INCREDIBLE, SUPERB, UNBELIEVEABLE, UTTERLY WONDERFUL, and i am running out of superlatives...

Because there's something about "Angst and the Analyst" that I've been looking for in "Mind Games," and to be quite honest, I can't find it.
I've been told that Riona is yet another username slip-in. But for someone who doesn't know that, "Angst" is a great story. It's light, it's funny, and draws characters and events together in such a way that makes you think. Some of that same spirit is in "Mind Games." I think it's hiding behind another spirit, a "how much cuteness can we pile on the reader?" spirit. The idea of Morningglory learning knife-throwing from Aran Linvail is neat. The characters still have their distinctive charm. I don't think the plot is as tongue-in-cheek as the characters, and the story suffers as a result. You could play down the "doom befalls the world" plot, or play it up to make it fit the characters.

Gee, I can tell this is a serious post. Only one emoticon!
And please don't patronize me. You don't have to defend your work or give me the oust because I'm the only naysayer on this thread. Writers don't need to, and I understand that. But implying that it all might be my perception of your work that's influencing my opinion is a little high-handed of you, forum moderator or not. You may not like my opinion, but that's no reason to talk down to me. (And having the forummaster crawl out of the woodwork to lick your boot adds insult to injury, whether you put him up to it or not.)
Maybe I'll say differently after the last few sections get posted and I can see the work as a whole. Or maybe I'll say the same. (That is, if I don't get banz0red for posting this.) All I ask is that you reread both pieces and continue to revise and edit them as you see fit, and not just remain satisfied with the "OMG MORE PLZ!!11" spotlight.

Ahhh... The first story in the series "The Angst and The Analyst" gives all the backstories, including the Kirani birds -- a, er, figment of my imagination, as is Hendak's origins. You can access it on the finished stories thread..managed to read it... the rest next week. btw whats the story behind those special birds? and hendacks' divine origines?

Awww, UU...... you flatter me! Just a little something I dredged up from my cauldron. But never fear.. those things that do not kill us make us stronger..
not only do you finish with one incredible journey, a tale i can now sit down and read from start to finish, and savor every edible morsel and bite, you put EVERYONE into another cliff hanger...
Well life is just one long journey made up of overlapping segments.. Yes, I will admit to ending this one with a cliff hanger, but you have to admit, an interesting beginning to the third story of the series.
MORE SOON!!! please??? i can even predict that dr. glory will join the expedition to haspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netrry the demon lord...now the council of 6 OWES her, and they better cough up support...
I am sincerely trying, my friend.. And not to spoil anything, but our good Doctor is in no shape to go anywhere. She will stay at home as AL, Riona, Anomen, VMan, Minsc & Boo, Immy and a guest appearance from Viga (yes, seven of them ) go off to search and rescue.
you were giggling as you wrote the last lines weren't you??? you knew exactly how we (your adoring and much suffering fans) would react...
Actually, I was brought to tears while doing the epilogue. You know I'm a Mom myself and I can't truly fathom the depth of dispair one could feel under those circumstances.. Making my readers suffer once in a while MIGHT be a side benefit from time to time, but I was suffering along with you..
of course the entire series was INCREDIBLE, SUPERB, UNBELIEVEABLE, UTTERLY WONDERFUL, and i am running out of superlatives...
Thank you, my long-suffering friend. I do really appreciate those kind words. And stay tuned! There will be more to come!
