The purpose of this component is outlined here
I guess it was supposed to fix an issue in the mod from years back that has to do with creature references, but I'm not sure the added fix actually works.
Here's an example from my current BGT game which is mentioned in the original post.
The slaves that you can free inside the Underdark mind flayer city are referenced here in my AR2400.ARE
Now let's take a look at the area script AR2400.BCS
That's not good, and it's not the only one. I've had problems with numerous cutscenes.
I think it's supposed to restore the correct (original) references which I can see in the vanilla install.
Maybe this slipped through the cracks. The relevant code for the component is in t-arecre.tpa
Looks like I'm a fool. I'm using 5.1.1 and this was fixed in the latest version according to the patch notes. Mods can remove this.
