The Expanded Thief Stronghold mod (from Gebhard Blucher) has been updated and is now available with macOS and Linux support.

Version 3.0.0 is ToB, BGT, BG2:EE and EET compatible (thanks Gwendolyne), comes with French (JohnBob) and Italian (ilot) translations, and includes a few fixes.

This mod expands the thief stronghold to make it more interesting by adding new quests and importing Narlen Darkwalk and Black Lilly from the Baldur's Gate Shadow Thieves guild into Athkatla.

I'll add to the love-- thanks Gwendolyne (and all other contributors) who keep these little works-or-art alive & Kickin'!

I do have one reservation... just want to confirm: "Replaced old portraits with PPE"

I'm always leery of original creators' content being 'updated'; worse, if we see 'Replaced'!

Are the originals images still in the package? Are the new ones a component option?

Yes I know...

I also don't like modifying content, and it is the very first time I do it, and I hope, the last time. :blush:

Unfortunately, as said in the change log section, it was impossible to resize the original portrait to EE size without pixelling. I searched through the web and did not find any pictures that might help me. So I decided to take the PPE ones, otherwise EE compatibility would have failed. But...

There is a legacy sub-folder in the mod top folder where I stored all original content I modified : old readme, wav files (I converted them to ogg format), unused scripts, the two components GB removed from his mod AND... the original portraits. If you play original BG2, copy them into your override folder. ;)

Hello everybody,

I'm having trouble to install the mod in a BGT-installation without a mod manager (just following the BigWorld install order). While other mods play along nicely, this little gem refuses. As far as I understand the attached debug-log there is a dialog missing (not sure about that).

Can you help me?

Thanks

Azaghal

EDIT: Sorry, my bad!

Uncomment the lines in https://github.com/S...sh/setup.tra#L6 and try again.

First of all thank you, Graion.

I think I know what you want me to do and it sounds like reasonable advice - but I don't know how. How do I "uncomment" the line in a .tra file?

Yours

Azaghal

Hello, you need to open the file "setup.tra" with a text editor, in Expanded_Thief_Stronghold/gbthfkp/lang/english/setup.tra...

And delete those symbole /* */ like this :

Before

/*@1  = ~This component requires the Throne of Bhaal expansion.~
@3  = ~Enhanced Random Encounters (w/Kensai Ryu, ToB req.)~
@4  = ~GB Scripts (player character scripts)~
@5  = ~Disable the 'Improved Mae'Var' component (restore game default files)~*/

After

@1  = ~This component requires the Throne of Bhaal expansion.~
@3  = ~Enhanced Random Encounters (w/Kensai Ryu, ToB req.)~
@4  = ~GB Scripts (player character scripts)~
@5  = ~Disable the 'Improved Mae'Var' component (restore game default files)~

Ok, thanks. Lesson learned. Edited the lines accordingly. Saved altered tra file and started installation. Now there's a different problem. Attached the debug-log. No translation provided for @2. But there is no @2. Or is that the problem?

Thanks for your continuous efforts.

Hello,

Back from a long break far away from my home and from modding.

Which version did you install? And where did you DL it?

1. There is something weird in your debug file : WeiDU v 24700. It should be WeiDU v 24900.

2. Before releasing this version, I installed it in a BGT installation in French, Russian and Italian. So I don't understand what's happening. I will try to reproduce this bug tonight and let you know how to fix it. ;)

And don't uncomment the tra file: these strrefs are deprecated.

Thanks for looking into it, Gwendolyne.

The mod version is 3.0.0 from March 2022. I've downloaded lots of mods recently, so I'm not absolutely sure about the source of this one, but I think it was github.

I was wondering about the outdated WeiDu version, but I have other mods in the install order using it and installing just fine.

Do I get you right about the tra edit: You want me to put the deleted /* and */ back into place?

Good night

Azaghal

Bad news... I installed the English version without any issue :

gbthfkp.png

The mod was downloaded here.

As far as I can see from your debug file, WeiDU can't read associated tra files when compiling dialog files. The only relevant clue is the WeiDU version number. Versions 248 and 249 releases came with a lot of new or improved features that I used in this update.

So, the only advice I can give you is:

- Delete this mod from your game folder

- Download it again (using the above link)

- Extract it in your game folder

- When installing, be sure WeiDU version is 249 (as displayed in the first row of my setup windows).

It should install fine.

Heureka!

That did it. I have no idea why, but somehow the previous download was not intact. Now the installation went smoothly.

Thanks a lot!

Fine!

I suspect the culprit is the new AUTO_TRA command : before v249, it did not handle variables, which I used in this update to avoid overwriting tra file after converting them into UTF-8 for EE games. So using a previous WeiDU version is definitively not recommended.

The good news is that I won't spend time to release a fix. ;)

Is it ok to install Expanded Thief Stronghold along with Quest Pack by SimDing0, in particular component "5: Additional Shadow Thieves Content" ?

Yes, although some of the choices made available by the Quest Pack may lead to you not being offered the Thief Stronghold.

However, it should be noted that this mod used to be incompatible with NPC Strongholds and all other mods affecting the thieves' guild due to it replacing the area script, although I assume Gwendolyne fixed that based on the readme ("modernised area patching").
