This is from one of my debug files

[./Chitin.key] loaded, 796308 bytes
[./Chitin.key] 322 BIFFs, 56189 resources
ERROR: [dialog.tlk] has size 16814788: TOO BIG FOR WEIDU (max 16777211)
ERROR: error loading [dialog.tlk]

ERROR: Failure("error loading dialog.tlk")

If upcomming mods like CtB (Check the Bodies), UB (Unfinish Buisness)
and Lost Crossroads have to be added to our installation using Weidu, then we need either a better Weidu able of handling larger dialog.tlk files
or a dialog.tlk cleaner/compactor
preferable both

original tread

Dialog.tlk too big for WEIDU; Sugestions?

Is there any way around this or is it possible to rewrite weidu so it can handle larger dialog.tlk files

Arenīt they TC???. Maybe the cuestion is not to add strings but to replace them.

We'd occasionally seen people complain about this problem before, typically those who had installed a great many mods in their day with no reinstalls and the strings just kept piling up, but it seems clear that the girth of BP-BGT-IWD is such that a fair number of people are going to be running around with 16 MB TLKs. (I guess that's what happens when you put three games in one .tlk file.)

So, yeah, Wes. It looks like it'll be for more than the Good of the One, if you decide to crack the 16 MB barrier.

Since I'm planning on adding a whole crapload of stuff into the dialog.tlk file, I'll sign on to this petition as well. I really hope it's possible (knowing nothing about programming myself I don't know what the limitations actually are). Please? ;)

Sounds like someone better get back to work and make Weidu handle those 16-20G dialog.tlk files.

I really hope it's possible (knowing nothing about programming myself I don't know what the limitations actually are).

The game will support a TLK file with as many as 2.1 billion strings (sentences, essentially), although it is unlikely this limit will ever be reached due to the maximum file size in 32-bit operating systems, which this game was designed for, being 4 gigabytes (over 4.2 billion bytes). However, this limit far exceeds WeiDU's current ability. Since the game supports it, I think WeiDU (and every other IE editor) should too.

It's a good idea because a) WeiDU is a popular mod tool and b) the number of mods is growing. So it's only a matter of time before lots of people end up with TLK files greater than 16 megabytes in size.

WeiDU now supports large TLK files.

Wild guess, 2^32 bytes, so 4 GB.

Are you sure it's 4 GIGabytes? If the .tlk is that big, I'd hate to see what the override file looks like~

Galactygon is just trying to be funny. Teamflapjack (a joke modding group of l33tspeak modders) lists all of those mods as things they are working on.

Edit: Whoops my mistake. It's obviously real as you can see by the quality of the work that has been done so far. I'm particularily looking forward to the sewage golem romance. I hope that the TFJ doesn't B4n m3 4evrrrrrrrrrrr for my blasephemous words against their l3w7 modding skills.

It's not a joke, Caedwyr. Have you seen the screenshots?

Oops, I hate being the one that spoils the joke by not getting the punchline and asking what it means...

Please forgive me for spoiling the joke again, but I'm an old fogey who doesn't know what l3w7 means or most of the other stuff in that last sentence. What's the website so I can see this sewage golem romance in action? heh

I now have a mod combination at 16.8MB for the dialog.tlk and Weidu is choking on installing the next mod. What gives? I have version 1.64. Is there a special parameter that needs to be set?

No, it should work fine. (I've been running them with dialog.tlk files of 19mb+.) Do you have an old, old setup.exe in the directory somewhere? Perhaps manually replacing it would help. Other than that, just make sure the .tlk file isn't set as read-only or an editor running or similiar nonsense.
