Reading through the linked posts I realise with increasing fascination that I sincerely answered questions and - also - reacted to what I identified as the start of bad rumors thinking I am dealing with different persons here. Also, looking at the alts at BeamDog you see a pattern of one alt increased the "like" helpful" and "insightful" counts for another. (I don't know how the "helpful" batch is given, but if it is related to the count of "insightfuls" then referring to that as a prove of Roxanne's helpfulness is more than sarcastic. Also, it's kind of obvious now that at least half of her helpful answers here were to questions she posted herself as a guest. So, in the end, I don't know how helpful she was, really.)

Ok, you got me here - I did not think about self-promoting by using alts. Still, there were real people genuinely asking question about BWS, EET and game-install troubleshooting, and Roxanne/Paula was helping them too.

May be it's because I was mostly on receiving end of that conversations, I feel less ashamed of talking to alts than thankful for help, but I do with all honesty take it more as (like subtledoctor said) an oddity than an evil intent (though, have to admit, self-promotion does not look good).

Probabaly, that would be truly the best solution:

I wished SHS would disable guest posting.

Good way to control post counting.

That's what I call obvious.

Roxanne, I know, no one can convince you otherwise, but it's still no more true than declaring "EET is hated on Beamdog forums". People love EET and people do want mega-mods (and God they need installing tools like BWS!). But there are rules on the forums we are all gathering. Breaking them is not an option. If moral aspects are at question for you, just take it as a wish to follow the rules.

To be perfectly clear and refering to the very first post of this thread,

Sogdiane is not an alt of Roxanne.

It is my pseudo and I am only a guest here.

I am sorry to have asked the same question twice but I just had forgotten I had done it already once.

Everytime I asked for help, Roxanne was here to give me a hand.

About the rest, I can't say anything. I am not in the best position to judge.

The ones that come under false disguise are those that call themselves modders in a community forum or moderators while their names appear in the end credits of industry games. Their company's interest is to sell more games and not to have people to stick to a single large modded game.

Beamdog sells five games out of which three are needed to play this EET thing, and two are the only ones anybody gives a shit about, they've already achieved the goal if you use the megamod

Anyway I'm hardly surprised that a person who wrote a fucking Bible-length saga about her fursona's adventures in Baldur's Gate has issues

This is really fun,

I only hope roxanne continues to post normally since having more than one account is somewhat widespread in many forums on the internet

I'll admit, framing this as an industry-driven conspiracy to shut down mega mods is not what I anticipated. Since this is directed at me, let me respond with a couple of points.

* I've never hidden my affiliation with Beamdog, nor that I get paid for my work with them.

* I could have hidden my role in all of this since none of the alts were at G3. Instead I've been open about my actions and accept responsibility for them.

* All of my mods remain available for the original games. If the goal were to promote EEs over the original, the single most damaging action I could take would be abandoning BG2 Fixpack. Instead I just spent several months--yes, months--updating the Fixpack, a mod that is exclusively for the original games. Pretty much all of the Fixpack post-v10 content comes from bugs found and fixed in the EEs.

* Cahir and others have already pointed out how promoting, not denigrating, EET would be in Beamdog's interests, so I'll not belabor the point.

I invite everyone to please go through my posting history--here, G3, Beamdog, and PPG are my main haunts--and make your own judgment.

edit: apparently SHS doesn't like bulleted lists, so I've redone it lo-tech.

That said, using alts still goes against commonly accepted ethics
You must not be a very ethical person then... Ardanis. :)

(and forget it, I'm not telling who I used to be. GTFO)

I consider being called ethical an insult ;)

That said, I think I at least wouldn't use the same avatar across all forums if I wanted to keep my identity concealed. Speaking of which, back in 2007 I actually had it written in my signature which username I was using where.

It seemed indeed rather obvious, but I hope this public pillory won't drive a much-needed active member from a shrinking community... Whatever floats their boat, I guess?

What if precisely that is intended?

A modder who promotes EET and new BWS and large mods must be a thorn in the side of Beamdog. With the big game installations she.enables, players can spend months and months exploring the Baldurs Gate world.

This keeps them away from purchasing additional products about to be released.

The ones that come under false disguise are those that call themselves modders in a community forum or moderators while their names appear in the end credits of industry games. Their company's interest is to sell more games and not to have people to stick to a single large modded game.

That's what I call obvious.

It's not the first time I hear the idea that Beamdog was trying to compete with mods https://forums.beamd...#Comment_956449 and I still don't get where that comes from. The only example of a mod successfully competing commercially with the base game (that I know of, at least) is the DotA mod for Warcraft 3, and we're talking about millions of players there.

In any case, I don't expect you to believe a word I'm saying, being affiliated with the company and having my name in the credits, but I think your knowledge of the modern video game market is severely limited and/or outdated. Players don't stick with one game for years anymore, they now consume games as they are being released and move on to the next one. Even those who do keep re-playing the same game over and over again, still buy new titles like everyone else. Ever heard about the "pile problem" that Steam users mention every now and then? Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. And the ones who stick with one title and never buy anything else? These are negligible fraction, as far as marketing is concerned.

Lastly, I don't get who's trying to drive whom out of where? Unless I miss something, the accounts here and on G3 remain untouched. While the ones on Beamdog forum were banned for explicitly violating local rules, and only after no response has come to messages sent by the staff.

PS I don't consider myself a modder anymore, btw. After couple of years spent working on Siege part-to-full time, I can't bring myself to so much as play the game, let alone mod it. I just hang around familiar place, like an old geezer.

Well, that statement is from "Kusel" quoting "verlaine" which both were Roxanne's alts, so...

I see you've found my favourite part! Have you seen that place where she talk with herself 14 posts straight (with 1 post from real person caught in the crossfire)? Or where one of her alts quotes another? It is almost like she holds SHS for her personal stage and all of us for grateful audience who come here only to admire her escapades, good thing we haven't been asked to pay for the tickets yet!

Believe me, Sherlock, considering how much you like being the drama queen around here, it would make more sense if you were Roxanne.

How do you determine something like this? IP + timestamp comparison?
One of her alt posts linked to a game guide written specifically for her mod. Having just looked at that guide, the way it's wonderfully presented, and the amount of detail it goes into not just her mod but its relationship with other mods, it's fairly obvious to see a random new-ish player could not have such intimate knowledge to that extent.

I think it's more a case of author's-use-of-a-pen-name-gone-wrong. Perhaps she feels a bit embarrassed about having spent so much time on the mod, the game, other mods, maintaining BigWorld fixpack, etc than she was filling to admit and therefore had to invent aliases to make it seem like she was not.

Anyway, this apparent 'witch hunt' is getting blown out of proportion. Let's tone it down a notch.

Agreed.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Attempted misdirection from an anonymous unregistered alias? Yup, about par for the course. ;)  (Edit - sorry, I just think this quote is fantastic, given the thread it's in.)

I actually agree with the anonymous coward unregistered troll person who is definitely, 100%, insistently not Roxanne.

So I reread the Forum Rules for the first time in probably a decade.

Multiple accounts/Alts are not just dishonest, they are against the forum rules:

Impersonating Other Users
You may not impersonate another forum member or a staff-member or create an account specifically for the purpose of provoking other users.

Accessing, using someone else's account or attempting to access another poster's account is strictly prohibited.

A member may not have more than one account at any given time.

Dura lex sed lex

"Ok, I've just about had my FILL of riddle asking, quest assigning, insult throwing, pun hurling, hostage taking, iron mongering, smart-arsed fools, freaks, and felons that continually test my will, mettle, strength, intelligence, and most of all, patience! If you've got a straight answer ANYWHERE in that bent little head of yours, I want to hear it pretty damn quick or I'm going to take a large blunt object roughly the size of Elminster AND his hat, and stuff it lengthwise into a crevice of your being so seldom seen that even the denizens of the nine hells themselves wouldn't touch it with a twenty-foot rusty halberd! Have I MADE myself perfectly CLEAR?!"

I was hoping you would get a hint, but seems I overestimated you. This thread is not about you, so unless you have anything to add that would be both on topic AND in a decent language, do us all a favour.

For a moderator/admin, you're a bit too emotional. Not that moderators/admins should be emotionless, but it kinda feels that you're too emotionally invested in all of this with your use of strong words and all.

Also, I understand that Roxanne violated the site rules. Is it just me but I don't like how this is being handled? It's like he or she is being publicly humiliated. Why not just ban the other accts and warn him/her that another violation would result to his/her acct being banned as well? If the purpose is to educate the public (as if it is a widespread practice), there are many ways to do that. I don't think this is doing the community any good at all. I hope Roxanne will continue modding though.
