Creatures have a morale rating and a morale breaking point, but what reduces morale to that breaking point? Is there a way to access that mechanism directly? I want my spell to have a chance of scaring enemies without the standard cheese of opcody Panic + saving throw.
How does morale work?

Others have made creature type specific scripts that log "friendly" deaths and panic if that exceeds a certain amount, but there's really no way you can avoid the cheesy tactics of opcode panic with a save throw to resist.
Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

No, that's not true. The first part. I've seen morale failure happen to monsters ever since I first played BG in 1998. Sometimes the effect is Running, sometimes Berserk.

It's a 1d20 check in PnP, but rarely made. So, instead of Panic, I could use opcode 106 to raise the breaking point or 23 to lower current morale. What would be the effect of a sudden surprise, like arrival of reinforcements to the enemy? The former, more likely.
