 Hello,

I'm using BWS on Linux with Wine (winetricks helps lauching vbs scripts). BG2:EE standalone works very well and worked well with a few mods installed in the previous installations. Now I want to try BWS because it installs the quests mods that were so great on old BG2.

Sometimes the download stops and the script freezes. Extraction fails sometimes while the files are good. I've tested and extracted manually some of the individual files and there were no errors.

So, I provide the files manually since I kept copies of those files downloaded on previous attempts in a separate folder. Yet BWS stills warns me of errors.

 Here's the warning:

The extraction of the following mod(s) failed:
BiG World Textpack: Translations and sounds (BiG World Textpack ENGLISH-v16.7z) ¹
Region of Terror: The Mod itself (RoT2.zip)
TDDz (EE-compatible installer for The Darkest Day): The Mod itself (BiGWorldProject-TDDz-v1.2.5-0-g71ce503.zip)
The Darkest Day: The Mod itself (TDDv1.14.rar)

Tower of Deception: The Mod itself (BiGWorldProject-TowerOfDeception-v4.0.1-0-gf74edfa.zip)
Unfinished Business: The Mod itself (UnfinishedBusiness-v27alpha.zip)

Xan NPC: The Mod itself (Xan_v15.zip)
Romantic Encounters: The Mod itself (RE_v11.zip)
Faiths and Powers: The Mod itself (UnearthedArcana-Faiths_and_Powers-0.63b-0-gb313e5d.zip)

Skip Chateau Irenicus: The Mod itself (Argent77-A7-SkipChateauIrenicus-v2.3-0-gda4b067.zip)
Tome and Blood: The Mod itself (TomeAndBlood.v0.7.rar)
Freedom's Reign & Reign of Virtue: The Mod itself (FR_ROV_V8.rar)
Item Upgrade (Weimer): The Mod itself (Weimer-ItemUpgrade-v40.exe)
Item Upgrade (Weimer): Translations and sounds (CespyAudioV1.zip) ²
Pack Mule: The Mod itself (w_packmule-v1.4a.zip)
Stuff of the Magi: The Mod itself (StuffofTheMagi.zip)
Artaport: The Mod itself (Artaport-master.zip)
Worldmap: The Mod itself (bp-bgt_worldmap-v101.7z)
Cannot proceed installation without this essential mod.
These add-on-archives were extracted properly when the requirements were missing.

Some files were not extracted. Do you want the BWS to run an integrity test on
those files first, provide the files yourself (see remarks) or just continue?
Enter [t]est, [p]rovide or [c]ontinue.
All files seem to be intact.
Enter [p]rovide or [c]ontinue.
BiG World Textpack
Enter [d]ownload, [e]xtract, skip [o]ne or [a]ll missing files.
Region of Terror
Enter [d]ownload, [e]xtract, skip [o]ne or [a]ll missing files.

Asking to extract files doesn't work either even since I have 7zip for Windows installed too.

The thing is that one can't override the errors and launch the installation anyway. Being on Linux, I can't execute the bat files properly and do a tedious manual installation, which is better than nothing.

 Debug is attached.

 Thanks in advance!

You might want to edit the post, go to the further editing options, and edit the title to include the fact that you are using Linux & Wine... this way the people that can help are more likely to find this thread.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

As far as I know BWS is windows-only.

Hi, is it possible to run BG:EE Trilogy which was installed on Windows, on Linux?
Installed "standard" BWS for Bg1+BG2 enhanced edition. Would like to copy it from Windows disk to Linux.

I transfered to BG2:EE folder/game all (i hope so) crucial folders from Windows install.
When trying to run executable, i get this message:

Has anobody tried doing things like this? Is it even possible to run modded game? What could be wrong?

Why would they ? There's a Linux and OSX BG2EE too.

EET unfortunately for you only supports the OSX, not linux as you can see from here. Now in theory one could make this all work in Linux too... but I won't promise you'll be able to, even if you are a good computer nerd, and get help.

Hello Jakar,

I always wanted to try this with my GoG BG:EET but I never did. So I am generally interested, although I

cannot help much. One thing I noticed, though:

Looking at the output you posted I am confused about it complaining about missing Steam support

INFO: Steam not found

on one hand and on the other hand "support/gog_com.shlib". So did you get the game from Steam,

GoG or Beamdog ?

My first reaction after seeing "Steam not found" was that your problem might be missing Steam support in

your Wine/Linux environment, but seeing gog_com.shlib might contradict that assumption.

Has anobody tried doing things like this? Is it even possible to run modded game? What could be wrong?

Obviously: EET and mega-mod installations as you are aware :-) Installing mods (tolower ? temporary case insensitive filesystem just for the game ?) under linux appears to be ... a bit challenging,. Much easier to do that under windows, especially EET with BWS (which hopefully continues to be maintained but does not work with wine anyway). However, most of the time I have linux running, which I generally prefer compared to windows. So, yes doing installation/mega-modding under windows and the running the result in wine is interesting.

Best Regards

Christof

Hello Christof,

i would definitely try again this kind of moded install, because my use of Windows now is limited to BG Enhanced edition (as you mentioned, i would like to play with moded one, not vanilla) and Witcher 3 (which i'm not playing, but it's good to know, that i could play it any time). I managed to run BG2 megamod from Wine with TCP/IP network support (after all those tricks with directplay, i simply installed gameranger). So now in my puzzle there left BG2EE moded and working in Linux.

Yes, i installed megamod on GOG version. I've Steam version too, maybe it's an idea to install megamod over that version? Of course, i prefer drm free GOG version to Steam. I'd later try again my findings and write here my progress. Thanks for showing your interest.

Hello Jakar,

I did a quick and dirty test (my laptop's SSD is space constrained unfortunately and the BG:EET is whopping 14 GByte).

It is dual boot, windows 7 64 bit and debian 8 (Jessie) 64 bit. So I can access the windows partition read-only from the

linux side. The BG:EET is derived from the GOG (BG1, SoD, BG2 patch level 2.3) binaries, modded with BWS in December

2016 including SCS etc.

I created a clean wine32 prefix (wine32 wineboot) and the started Baldur.exe which is located on the windows partition

using winefile. For me, the game starts, I can create a character  and run around in Candlekeep, taking quests and shop at

Winthrop's. I did not try to access one of my saves, they are obviously not in any path the game would search  I do not see

any complaints about Steam in the console !

So, whatever your problem is, it is not the game assuming it works under windows. I speculate it is either missing Steam (why

should that be if you say it is GOG, but OTOH why does yours complain and my does apparently not ?) or some filesystem

problem with broken paths/ case sensitivity. However, this is near impossible to say over the internet.

But I hope this datapoint helps you (and others who might find this thread).

Best Regards

Christof

Hello again,

I redirected console output to a file now. In fact, the "INFO: Steam not found" is there, too. So it is not

Steam support. Apparently the different versions (Steam, GOG, Beamdog) are not that different from each other, might be steam support is simply a dll. Well, I attach a file with the output anyway.

Best Regards

ckoe, thanks for your's explanations. i couldn't manage to run trillogy natively on linux, but wine version works just fine. actually, it runs better than on my son's windows pc with got annoying stuttering problem.
