Sandrah related CTD after Riatvin

Install: tactics

 

Action: After saving Riatvin from demons, a cutscene occurs, the screen turns black and there goes the transition from "Riatvin with demons" to normal Riatvin. After some seconds, there is a CTD.

 

Error: ASSERTION FAILED!

I went ahead and tried out some "trial and error" thingys and I found that:

If I Ctrl-Y Shandrah, the crush never happens.

If Shandrah is alive the crush happens no matter what area I'm in. I even tried traveling to the temple and res her from there, but after that, within some seconds the crush occurs.

Also, even if she has no items at all, the crush occurs.

 

Could it be a script?

The BGT version of the mod has been long abandoned and the version you still have is not even the last available for BGT.

 

Nevertheless I found an old install to run your savegame.

 

This is what happens - triggered by the amount of XP you probably gathered during the TDD episode, a visit from Mystra to Sandrah occurs. It is possible that some animation from her companions fails (you have a lot of mods installed that may cause this.)

 

Anyway, I was able to run the scene without CtD. I made a save of it after the Mystra encounter.

You may try to continue the game from that save.

PS Here is the conversation you miss - at the end Sandrah receives a blessing from her goddess (that should be in the savegame)

Is there any chance you can tell me the CRE names of her companions, so that I manually change the animations with NI to any other animation? (I have done this before on a purple elemental and changed the animation to lava elemental)

It may be animation or items they carry - the load of missing items from my save indicates that a lot of stuff is tweaked in your game.

The thing that puzzles me is that the same group is spawned after Sarevok's death in the Undercity. Mystra's first encounter.

Problem solved. CVDYPROT and CVasstem CRE were using  a solar animation that was the root of the evil. I made them use an ice troll animation and all went fine :D

I have no idea why some animations cause CTD, but that's not the first case in my BGT. I have been haunted by the purple fire elemental too, a problem that some other people had too, so I guess it's not something in my install but something bigger.

 

Thank you once again Roxxane, that saved me many hours of gameplay (actually I have no much time, so far we're talking about one year+ of gameplay)

 

My only question is: Is there a way to find myself the code running just before the CTD so that I can track the problems (and fix them)?

If the problem is related to Sandrah's script you can use this:

You can easily modify the tp2 if you suspect another script to be the source of a problem.

Note that some scenes may also trigger from the last line of a dialogue (those actions you will find with NI)

 

You can also use a tool change-log (just search SHS forum here for it) if you want to know which mod causes the issues by changing cre files or animaton files (e.g. animate.ids).

 

There is also a more global tool http://www.shsforums...s/#entry504055, I cannot comment on it as I found it not practical for my own use and have not touched it for years.
