Hi,

I would like to as a simple question:

At the moment, does it make sense to install a BG2EE build instead of a BGTrilogy one?

I haven't tried BG2EE yet. Do the "new things" outweight the lack of mods in comparison to BGT?

I'm planning on installing with the Tactical preset.

I have completed the whole trilogy several times a few years back with AI fixes and improved encounters, so I'm very familiar with the game.

So, in short what I would like:

A) (Somewhat) Improved difficulty. It doesn't need to be a total overkill. I'm fine with reloading / reassessing strategies in depth, but I don't like planning and trying to pass a single battle for hours. I feel the standard game with the SCS basic fixes is just too easy at this point.

B) Quality of mods and the quality of play experience is certainly preferred over quantity of mods / content ( Mod quality should be close to original content or on par with it)

Kind regards,

tapi

Yes, well no, well about that, there will be official release of the Enhanced Edition Trilogy when the Beamdog releases the totally new middle portion of the Enhanced Edition game, Baldur's Gate: Siege Of the Dragonspear.

Yes, you can install the EET game to your BG2EE game, and have the modified BG1EE game included in the thing.

No body has come out and really said their opinion about the difference between BGT-weidu and EET. But the BWS offers both install options today.

So in about 5 years, the answer will likely be to use the BG2EE as the platform, but no one has given enough reasons to actually make a whole story about if it's worth or not to update.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

The Tactical pre-selection does not represent a curated set at the moment. Meaning, it is a maximized content selection, without much regard for quality. So, pick the mods you want, don't just use the default pre-selection.

BiG World Fixpack (community collection of mod fixes and compatibility patches, with user-friendly cross-platform script)

BiG World Setup (tool to automate best-practice installation of Infinity Engine mods on Windows, with conflict analysis)

Thanks for the insight, both  :)

@agb1:

After such a break I have serious difficulties discerning what to install and what not.. in regards to quest mods / npc's, bad selection doesn't matter as much, I simply will ignore the content ( and I will skip TDD and other stuff like that, at least  I know *that* much..)

Bbut when it comes to the tactical encounters I'm not really up-to-date on what to install..

On my last run several years ago I think I had like maximal difficulty in everything, but it was super grindy, I was getting *really* exhausted down the stretch, and I would prefer to tone it down a step from that, yet keeping things challenging. Any suggestions on what mods to definitely SKIP? I mean, the super-crazy, "plan for 3 hours or use google, then take another 2 hours to execute properly to win", level stuff. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

I'll wager that SCS with moderate to full prebuffs + Item Randomizer + aTweaks mephits, fiends, elementals, etc will give you sufficient and balaced challenge. For more fun add the improved battles/bosses from scs and/or Ascension. Lastly, try SCS'S 'party items get taken away in Spellhold ' + Unfinished Business' 'Bodhi plays cat and mouse in Spellhold'on top of the above components.

Should be good times.
