Hello all,

is anybody in the possession of the file "MPSounds.bif" of the German version of "Tales of the Sword Coast"?

I would like to dabble a bit with the conversion to German with some of the sound sets and would like to find this file. The old links over at Kerzenburg are dead. If anyone knows a download link, I'd be much obliged.

Over the past years, I have tried collecting all the different international sound sets of the Infinity Engine games -- I've always envisioned a Babylonian mod of sorts -- and here's what I have acquired so far:

BG 1 + TotSC ¹

English (complete)

French (complete)

Polish (complete)

Spanish (complete -> "MPSounds.bif" was not localized, so the file is identical to the English version)

BG 2 + ToB ¹ ²

English (complete)

French (complete)

German (complete)

Italian (complete)

Polish (complete)

Spanish (complete)

PS: T

English (complete)

French (complete)

German (complete)

Polish (complete)

Russian (complete)

IWD 1 + HoW ¹ ³

English (complete)

French (complete)

Italian (complete)

Spanish (complete)

IWD 2

English (complete)

French (complete)

German (complete)

Italian (complete)

Polish (complete)

Russian (complete)

¹ Does anyone know if there exists a Russian localization with Russian sound sets for BG 1 and BG2, respectively? I have seen a video on YouTube with Russian voiceover, but no more info could I find on the matter.

² The Japanese edition of BG 2 includes three Japanese sound sets, but I've yet to find them.

³ For the German version of IDW 1 + HoW, I still search for "eSFXvo.bif" and "eSFXvoH.bif"; for the Polish version, I couldn't locate "eSFXvo.bif", "eSFXvoH.bif" and "SNDvo.bif" so far.

If any of you are interested, I can upload the sound sets that I already have.

Apart from the IE Games, I have complete international sound sets from Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Diablo 3, StarCraft 2, WarCraft 3, World of WarCraft (they are downloadable from the distro section on their web site).

Thanks a lot,
cameosis

...
That's the Enhanced Edition of the game... among things it comes with:

Now in 14 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Polish, Brazilian Portugese, Czech, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, Russian, Ukrainian

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

thanks for the quick response -- aren't most of the languages listed text translations only?
i browsed the beamdog forum and many non-english speaking users complained that there are no localized sound sets and why the older files were not at least reused (german, french and russian sections, for example).

Well, the BG1EE v1.2 didn't have the Russian translation at least in the in game options, it was added in the v1.3. from what I can tell.
I can't know for sure, but I would expect that re-localizing the file structure to be a little here, a little there. See, the Enhanced Edition stores the language files in here: <gameinstallfolder>\lang\xy_ZT folders, where the xy and ZT make up the language prefix, aka, en_US, de_DE etc. Some of those folders contain different sound files to the characters, others are pretty much empty. The files there if in use, overwrite the files in the main directory, aka .bif files and override folders files.

The youtube link you gave... well gives a link to a Russian mostly Command And Conquer based site, that also likely provides translations for some other western games. BG1 and BG2 being those. For donations. Or that's "the interpretation" I came up with ... cause I can't actually read Russian, at all. ... that's the mildest interpretation by the way.

There's nothing that says that the Enhanced Edition team can use the publicly available sound files as they are not of their making. But you are free to download the files yourself, if you find a way to do so. And you can provide a link to the download pages too, but you shouldn't actually link to your own files directly. At least without asking and receiving a permission to do so, first.

thanks for the clarification regarding the differences between ee versions. as to the youtube link, you are correct -- the site itself states that the localizations aren't "finished" -- i basically stopped reading when i saw that there are "donations" required, haha

i didn't imply that the files i have or the links i can provide are supposed to be used by the ee team, on the contrary. it was an offer for modders, nothing more. i don't think anybody would presume that you can just pick a sound set from a different game and release it as an official add-on for your own product. :whistling:

will update later with direct links to the official downloads.
