I'm new to this whole infinity engine modding shtick so i may have done something horribly wrong, if so, please point it out.

So i recently got baldur's gate I and II and decided that i'd try out that mod i'd heard about that allowed me to play the first game in the second's game engine.

a quick google search later i came upon this article. I followed almost all the steps save the one regarding installing the BGII tweak pack as i did not deem it necessary for me at this moment in time.

I go into the installation folder for ready and hyped for some sweet sweet RPG playin', double click the "Baldur.exe" file click play...

And it takes me to the vanilla BGII start screen where i can choose either shadows of amn or throne of baal.

After another quick google search i find myself here so i look around, i do not find any solution to my problem.

Thank you in advance for any help given.

Erhm, if you have installed the game outside the Program Files folder, and followed the principle of Easy to install game pre-2007, the game might still look like it starts the BG2:SoA game, but don't frighten, when you actually start a new game it should take you to Candlekeep. Not to Irenicus Prison. PS, the game needs to be started using the BGMain.exe, not the baldur.exe ... that launches a front end program that does you nothing but harm, by using power and processor speed as every other program that you run in the background.

Ouh, yes, that article is totally boched as it doesn't actually give the correct install order as you need to install the BG2Fixpack before the BGT... I have already said so in the article if I remember it correctly. Yep, the second last comment:

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Hmm....

I don't seem to have a "BGMain.exe"...

Anyhow, here goes another few hours of fiddling and installing...

Also, when i can, I never install things on my C:\ Drive.

A force of habit that comes from going through a phase of installing many things without knowing how to properly operate a computer.

And people say ignorance is bliss...

Is that a BG2Enhanced Edition game? The BGT-weidu is not known to be compatible with the EE versions of the game. That's the only case I know where the baldur.exe is the only exe in the game folder.

No it's just the regular thing, four discs of SoA and one for ToB.

I'm in the process of reinstalling everything right now...

You also installed the patch to the BG2 game before you install any mods, correct ? And the BG1 CD5 game needs the TotSC addon(1 add-on CD) and it's patch. Those are the English versions, there are also other languages, and they need different patches according to the language, but the version number are same...

Seeing as I installed the games then followed the guide straight away, I had not installed any patches.

I got over-excited...

Also i've got Baldur's gate: The original saga from GoG.com, so CDs are not a thing.

Ahh, yes, the Original Saga comes with the v5521 patch already included so the BG1TotSC doesn't need the above patch.
