Hello all.New member here so please forgive any blunders.

I Installed both Baldur's Gate Original Saga and Baldur's Gate II SoA and expansion TOB. Then found out about the various mods out here and the BWP. Started downloading mods and read thru the BWP pdf file. After several complete reinstalls of everything, i finally got the thing to install and load correctly. I thought!!Seems every time i start a new game with any character, that character dies before the starting movie can even start.

If anyone can help would greatly appreciate it.

Weidu.log's content in spoilers please.

So open the file from your game directory with Notepad and copy/paste the text to a post with these:

Hello all you great modders:

Just a little note saying you have made some great mods but i am still having a problem with the starting of BG Original Saga after installing some of your mods.

Did a complete uninstall of BG and BG2 with TOB expansion patched, then wiped the free disk space and reinstalled both games and the expansion. Patched TOB. Then selected a character and quick saved for all 3 sections of the games. Made back ups of the files listed in the BWP document and proceeded to put the mods i wanted into the BG2 folder(C:\BWP\Black Isle\BGII - SoA).Also put the files for the BWP installation and ran Big World Installpack.Looked like a good installation when finished but every time i create a character and run it into BG1 my character dies at the door of the Candle Keep Inn before i even have control of it.

Anyone  knows what the heck i did wrong or which mods i should not install?

I need help big time or otherwise will be a deletion of BG1 and 2 and the cd's put up forever.

Great mods but no one to help with my problem.

If this is in the wrong area Staffers please move it to where it belongs.

Does it happen with any class/kit you play?

Apart from that, SCS is updated to v28, v24 has CTD bugs.

You also might want to check area script for Candlekeep.

Hello all

Just a quick note to report on my latest reinstallation of BG Original Saga + BG2 and TOB with patch 24698. Installed the games and patched them then ran both games with new character and then quick saved. Then i put all the mods i wanted into the C:\BWP\Black Isle\BGII-SOA folder with the Big World install programs and let it do its thing. After a while everything came to a stop and i closed the installation window. Then inserted the TOB disk and clicked the shortcut to BGmain and game loaded.Kind of slow but i had left off the Generalized Biffing  mod so i expected it to be a bit slow. Created a new character and  shock of ages, my character survived the load up screen and i was able to enter the Candle Keep Inn. The npc mage did cast a fear spell on me(LN Monk) and i lost control for a time but after spell wore off i was able to move around and check my inventory(lousy staff) and i talked to the inn keeper and was able to look over his stock.

I then saved the game and put in Generalized Biffing and ran that program. When it was finished, i restarted BG and loaded my saved game. As my character appeared outside the Inn where i left him, he died for no reason i can come up with. Why does Generalized Biffing kill my characters? any ideas out here as to what is causing this?????

I remember reading something similar recently. There were also char dying at the start of BG1, and the issue was located as the result of certain class mod having reduced this class chars level down below 1, So, as kreso suggested, check if you'll still die when creating plain fighter char.

I tried with a dwarf fighter with 19 con and he still dies before the intro movie even starts in BG1. I have also tried other characters and races and they all die at the Inn with no one near any character. Still trying to figure out how using the Generalized Biffing mod makes my character die.

edit: I did download the latest version of Stratagems ver28 and in process of reinsalling everything again.

Hello all
Just back online as my last installation failed me yet again when i used the mod Generalized Biffing v2.2, and theBig World  Clean-up mod to clean up the excess files.  I am running on Window xp pro, Service pack3. I loaded BG Original Saga and Bg2 and ToB expansion then patched ToB to 26498. Then created a plain fighter with 18 con and moved him around a bit in BGOS. Did a quick save followed by a normal save then quit and started a character in BG2. This time a plain monk with 18 con and did a little movement with him. Did the saves again and imported the monk into ToB and ran around a bit and looked at inventory. The saves came next and i exited the game. I then started to move the mods i wanted to try over to my C:\BWB\Black Isle\BG2-Soa folder along with the Big World Fixpack, the Big Wold Installation, the Big World Textpack and the Big World Trimpack files. The i clicked the installation bat file and waited while it did its thing. At first i left out the Generalized Biffing files and tried a game knowing it would be a bit slow to load and all. I was able to take my monk character with 18 con into BGOS and talk to the npc's and the Innkeeper.Explored around the Inn for a while then i saved the game and exited. Then i put the Biff file into the BG2 folder and ran the Biff file and waited for it to finish its duties. When Biff was finished i ran the Clean-up file  and then tried loading my monk character. As soon as he appeared near the Inn in Candlekeep he dies and i see this hand disentagrate and a load or exit screen popped up saying the main character was dead. Would truly like someone with experience to try and figure out what the heck is going on. I know the Biffing and clean-up files should not install anything that would kill my character at the very beginning of BGOS.

If someone could tell me how to put my files in the spoiler button that would help me put some files up that might help with my problem. My Weidu log file is 72.4 kb long.

A very frustrated player with BG modding

If you have a specific mod in view it helps to post in the mod's forums. Also, I have a faint recall I read about this before, but I do not recall any details. Did you do a search? It might not have been on this forum but maybe Gibberlings Three.

I understand your problem is very annoying but it's also very special. I have no idea what causes this.

EDIT: To use the spoiler, you have to put the text that is supposed to be hidden between the spoiler taggs:

I have tried to help Kovram930 with this in PMs, but I can't reproduce the error without making similar BiG World install as he has and that's not in my power in the coming days... and yes, you have read similar errors in here, Alan Wiggs had the same, but that was isolated to be caused by Psionics Unleashed and a culmination of other mods that ended setting the character level below zero and instantly kill him. It's probable that the actual cause was not at all related to the Psi_Unl... mod at all...

Kovram930 has been able to play the very same game without the usage of Generalized biffing without the problem, but as soon as he installs the Gen_Bif, his character dies... which is odd.

Well, you see you put the "/" mark to a wrong spot originally ... so you just got to remove the first one in the [spoiler/] , and then add the correct one, this:

[/spoiler]

in the later spot... Yeah, I understand that the forum sometimes alters your input if it's wrong and you get the results you have ... the /spoiler -instead of the above, it can't be written without the correct start tag or it being in the the code tags.

This is my latest WeiDu log file without Gen Biffing and the Clean-up bat file.

Spoiler

IF any other files are needed to figure out why my character dies at start of the game please respond.

With this current setup without Gen Biffing and the Clean-up bat file i can run a character in BG but it seems when i install and run these last 2 files, my character dies. The game does load reeeeaaaallllll slow but the characters(have tried several) all live and can interact with npc's. I am worried that if i run without Gen Biffing my character may die during fights or scene shifts.

Here is my Change-log zip file after i ran it

--change-log the kit.ids file .. and upload the change-log folder as a .zip archive to the post... the More Reply Options has the interface for this, or upload it to another side and then link us to that.

PS, you should have the latest weidu.exe already in the game folder so do not overwrite it if you extract the change-log.zip into your game folder.

This is applied during the BWP Install pack or BWFixpack stage by the .bat's as that's the backup for the first weidu mod. Having the kits there twice and the fact that the Barbarian and Sorcerer have two different numbers, one of which is common to each of the kits...
It has been established that the original kit.ids file only needs to be appended with the Sorcerer ids, which by the standard of refinement is "0x8000 0000 SORCERER" ...

Nope, this won't solve the Kovram930 's problem, but... it shows how cheesed up the currently established table really is... :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :vbat: :vbat: :vbat: :fish: :fish:

K.... so my bet is that the Kovram930's problem is caused by these components:

~SETUP-REFINEMENTS.TP2~ #0 #10 // Revised High Level Abilities: Refinements v 3.31
~SETUP-REFINEMENTS.TP2~ #0 #30 // Shapeshifting fix -> Heal on shifting back to human (Default): Refinements v 3.31
~SETUP-REFINEMENTS.TP2~ #0 #40 // Universal lesser mage robes: Refinements v 3.31

Because of the ALWAYS -block. ... but that's only a guess.

Hmm, reading the last kit.ids file would be honestly fun... if it wasn't so botched:

Have not run either a barbarian or wildmage in any of my tries.Have tried with a monk, fighter and thief all plain original character classes and all have died at start of game.
