I would be fine with a "use with caution".

Just one more question. Just in case you still have the downloaded files, which version was Big Worls Installpack in your last install?

If you now start BWS from *Start BiG World Setup - Update If Needed.vbs*, you should have BGT access behind a warning.

17, so I do get a warning. But just editing 1 bat file is pretty trivial.

And thank you for the quick fix.

To answer an earlier question you posted, yes, my first language is English. That is why what you call "fix" is called "cheat" where I come from.

BWS continues cheating users with promissing a service it cannot provide anymore.

Are you now saying that you could only install with BWS by editing a bat file?

My question about the language was about "don't blame the messenger", which just does not apply for someone who is defending her own work.

And about the bat file editing.

Yes I had to edit 1 bat file.

Every year or so I a BG playthrough, and I have never seen BWS do everything perfect. So that promise of perfection is not something I ever noticed.

But having to choose between "flexible mod selection and installation, but having to delete exit from one bat file"  on one hand, and "installation script with a ton of manual work, no automatic downloads, and nontrivial mod selection, and having to start over from scratch"... I would decide on the first option every time.

About things being a cheat or a fix...

From my point of view it's fixed, since the thing I wanted from it is now possible again. And also from my point of view I was more "cheated" out of something I spend lots of time on. And I've said it before, that is not something you should do in a live environment with endusers. What you have done now is much more acceptable.

And since there is now some warning in the program, it's more acceptable to remove the BGT feature sometime in the future if there is no improvement for a year or so. And at least after a clear warning, you can't expect everyone to keep up with forum drama to predict some feature be removed from BWS without a moment notice.

There have been posts like this repeatedly over the last months

I admit that I have not found the time yet for the September update due to the forum's recent outage.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to keep up with forum posts about some tool they are using. Also that particular post does not really warn me that the BGT feature was likely to be removed soon, just that is was not updated anymore.

Just to clarify. I do admire the work you've done for BG in general, and the super fast response. And I might have made some post written from emotion a bit to much, so apologies if I came over a bit to snappy.

I tried an EET install with quite a lot of different mods today, and received the following warnings and errors. This was on a "big" install, so lots of mods, although nothing that was marked as expert in BWS, and all reported conflicts resolved.

The following warnings come up during the first phases - presumably this is a problem with versions being updated and not being accounted for? Either way, hopefully this is a useful heads up

WARNING: File "Foundling/Foundling.tp2" contains 'VERSION ~3.2~' (expected no VERSION line)! This is the file targeted for patching in "FOUNDLING.TP2.PATCH" in "Big World Fixpack/Foundling". This might mean that the patches for this mod were made for a different version of the mod than the one that you are using, or this might mean that the mod was already patched and then removed from the list in the "BWP_Fixpack.installed" file without restoring the original pre-patched files.

Do you want to try to apply the patch anyway? If the target file is different from the original file that was used to create the patch, then the patch might fail completely (making no changes) or it might fail partially (making some changes) or it might succeed with 'fuzz' (if all of the lines to change are still in the file, but some other lines were added in between). If partial patching occurs, the mod might fail to install or manifest other problems later. If in doubt, please visit one of the modding forums and ask for help.

I skipped both patches, and continued installation until SCS. SCS ran out of memory, but I'd seen this reported elsewhere, so I used the large address aware fix on the weidu file for SCS as per http://gibberlings3....showtopic=28718 and retried, and this time it run until the following error:

ERROR: [duearc01.CRE] -> [override/dw#duarc.CRE] Patching Failed (COPY) (Failure("Unable to parse %RESREF_QD_MCM03_KIT_EFFECTS_REMOVE%"))
ERROR: Failure("Unable to parse %RESREF_QD_MCM03_KIT_EFFECTS_REMOVE%")

You can try to repair the problem and start the installation of the component again. In this case please select "retry" after the repair.

If you don't want to spent time for that now, you can also continue without the component or exit the program. The BiG World Setup will continue with the installation of that component.
Enter [r]etry, [c]ontinue or [e]xit.

I retried once, but it hit the same error. So i continued. I received a number of further errors in SCS components that I skipped through all of:

The first two issues are related to Big World Fixpack, I have initiated the update there.

Thanks for the report.

For the SCS isuues, well, they are SCS issues (unless we get evidence that there is incompatibility with some other mod, in which case the BWS could provide a conflict warning for the user.)

So I reran the install with a bit more selective pruning of mods. It seems the problem with SCS wasn't just memory but a clash with kit mods of some kind, so I removed all kit mods and a fair number of NPC mods (a shame, because I haven't played with some of the newer ones) and for the purposes of posterity, carried out the following steps to handle the memory issue (thanks to Blash2 for instructions).

  1. Download and install ExplorerSuite from http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php or alternatively using chocolatey: choco install explorersuite
  2. Ensure CFF Explorer is installed and can be started after installation
  3. Run BWS and choose components as desired
  4. Place a pause before the first SCS Component in the install order
  5. Deselect Install in batches prior to starting the BWS install process
  6. Allow the process to run as usual until the pause is hit
  7. When the pause is hit, resume the process to allow the first SCS component to install, but select the pause button after restarting so that the process will stop again when the first component is complete
  8. When the first component installs and the process stops again, start CFF Explorer
  9. Open a file, and select the setup-strategems.exe file that will be in your BG2EE/EET install folder now
  10. In the options tree that appears in the left hand pane of CFF Explorer when the file is open, expand the + by File: setup-strategems.exe and again on Nt Headers until you can see an option node called File Header
  11. Click this option. A table should appear in the right hand pane
  12. In the bottom right hand cell of the table, under the column heading Meaning and on the row that begins Characteristics it should say Click here
  13. Click where it tells you to click
  14. In the dialog box that pops up, check the box next to option App can handle > 2gb address space
  15. Once the box is checked, click OK to exit the dialog
  16. Click the Save button and when prompted if you want to Overwrite original file? click Yes
  17. Close CFF Explorer
  18. Resume the BWS installation process

The following mode components also failed, but it doesn't seem to be a BWS-specific problem so I'll just note them for reference

  • Sirene NPC for Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
  • Verr'Sza: Siege of Dragonspear
  • Choose a class for Mazzy -> Make Mazzy a paladin

Damnit, none of the formatting came out as I expected so reposting to make it readable. Mods feel free to delete the previous comment. Should make an account as I'd presumably be able to edit then?

The following 4 EET components are selectable for BG2EE (no EET) but are not actually compatible with it:

Component: Familiar death consequences -> Disabled
Component: More bandit scalps
Component: Import party items to SoA
Component: Key Ring

The following 4 EET components are selectable for BG2EE (no EET) but are not actually compatible with it:

Component: Familiar death consequences -> Disabled
Component: More bandit scalps
Component: Import party items to SoA
Component: Key Ring

Your observations reflects what is actually stated in the EET_Tweaks readme components description.

The restrictions will be added to the BWS selection.

Thank you for your report.

Thank you for updating :)

I missed one on BG2EE, although it's I guess it's a little less cleancut. The SCS Component 4240 (convert wizard/priest HLAs to innate abilities) failed when trying to update CMGMIR25.CRE. A quick search reveals that this file comes from the mod Vampire Tales, and when I removed Vampire Tales from my install order, the SCS Component installed without issue. I can't find the exact log error messages though - it seems I overwrote the file before saving it
