I can confirm what Creepin has said about Almateria's Restoration, it's also hanging up my installation. My BWS also doesn't seem to recognize the newest versions of Rogue Rebalancing and Item Randomiser. I had to dump the install contents of both these executables into an a folder and then make an archive of each so BWS could extract them and force the install.

 

I'm sure this has been answered before but are these BWS installs still going to remain compatible for non-EE versions? It caught my attention seeing Ascension out of order in my install list only to find out it's been updated for the EE.

Is BWS Original BG1+BG2 Trilogy playable anymore? 

 

In the last 2-3 weeks Ive done at least 5 installations of "Tactics" and there are game ending bugs.  I've tried a few posts and configurations but I cant seem to pin point why.  

 

I only play to the end of Chapter 3 each time, after that the game crashed whenever I try to enter Nashkel Carnival, wheather using map or Console.  The other two bugs are Death of Party game crashes before Hand Movie starts.  Duergar Bounty Hunters in the mines, the Rogue Duergar crashed game on his first action.  Each new install I checked these with a pre-gen character quickly skipping through the game to see if they are still present....when they are, I re-install.

 

Ive been using the Default Configuration of "Tactics" with only a couple of changes.  I get rid of Hard Times and I get rid of the the option that makes enemies +1 AC/Save/THAC0 and instead pick add more HPs.  The only conflict that shows is a Potrait Pack, "Drows" not being capatible with "BG Paint".  Ive tried installations getting rid of Drows and keeping it anyway, same bugs either way.

 

I read BWS isnt being updated anymore and since I read that, I was trying to get one last good install.   Am I too late?

 

Has anyone reciently used BWS on a Tactics install and played that far without this happening? or happening also?

 

update May 26th

 

Another install today, Ive attached a copy/paste log of almost everytime the BWS stopped and required a response.   Duergar Thief bug is no longer there and I am able to enter Nashkel Fair after completing the Mines.  But the Death Hand Movie still does not appear upon death of entire party and I simply crash to desktop.

 

Durring installation I had 13 Errors asking me if I wanted to patch a version of a mod that didnt match the current version.  In all cases it was because BW Fixer was using a outdated version of the Mod, no in other words choose "NOT TO PATCH". One of the reasons whyyyyy not many qualify to maintain BWS may lie here:

 

Supported Games (according to BWS own description)

- Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition (standalone game)
- Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition (standalone game)
- Enhanced Edition Trilogy( BG1:EE + SoD + BG2:EE + IWD1:EE + partial IWD2-in-EET ) [sic]
- Baldur's Gate 2

- Baldur’s Gate Trilogy ( BG1 + BG2 )
- Icewind Dale / Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition
- Icewind Dale II / Icewind Dale II: Enhanced Edition (?? error in BWS description) [sic]

- Planescape: Torment (now EE, but not on BWS list)
- Classic Adventures

 

Even the various possible BG installs are a challenge in its own - but then those other games?

Monumental...even if you had all those games to begin with (just like you need for testing).

Just as a personal example - myself, I played and modded and installed with or without BWS uncountable times (and supported BWS and fixpack in the past) but still I just ever used two games from that list, namely BGT and recently EET...

Yeah... maybe you should start with knowing that there's no such thing as IWD2EE ... but there's PsT:EE, not that it's supported in BWS.

And the BGT is no different from BG2 in thew eyes of the BWS, either.

On an English GOG version of BG2:EE (without BG:EE and SOD) installing BWS "recommended" ends up with BWS wanting me to make new game & savegame  (which I did multiple times) and then closes.  When I rerun it after it's closure - BWS 'asks' do I want to continue from "russian language pack instalation".    I don't have russian picked up.  Everything it in english.

 

BWS is updated, BG2:EE both SOD and TOB started and saved (both quicksave and normal save) multiple times, etc

 

Very frustrating.

Have either of you looked at what this file says about your install, it's in the C:\Users\<windows_user_name>\Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\Baldur.lua ? You can open the file with Notepad, or Notepad++
And of course you need to start the game and set the language in the BG2EE to be English in the options menu... . And of course if you don't have a legal copy of the game, we can't support those. As in, in your case you can always ask help from the GoG support.

i dont have a baldur lua. except if you meant baldur.ini.   and i am pretty sure there is no language option in the main menu and options of the game.

i have the GOG v2 too

Well, try to place this into the Documents sub folder like I posted above.

This could simulate a Steam copy on the GoG game.

I have encountered the same problem of patching enquiries as well. 

On the other hand, I also have the problem on the lolfixer, "unborker" in particular. 

It can't be installed through BWS or manually. 

The error includes the line "Invalid_argument("String.sub")"

I believe that design decision to auto-pull latest versions of the mods, made about 1 or 2 years ago, will be major factor in BWS deterioration speed once it lost its maintainers. If BWS kept using (as an example) mod version 2.3 until someone with the knowledge manually approves switching to 2.4 while doing all the necessary prep work, it could have remain stable, if not completely bug free, for eternity.

Agreed. It would be great if we can have the older versions of the BWS (from 1 or 2 years ago).

The problem is that for some mods these versions would be no longer available for download. And, I would be really glad if we wouldn't discuss "let's use older mod versions" from mods that do get updated.

 

One thing I think could be realized without too many changes would be to disable the automatic downloading. I prefer having to download manually over "tool not working at all".

Next thing that would need to be removed is the necessity of changing revision numbers by hand. Noone can do that longer than a year without burning out. I have no idea how this would be done.

Next level (if I may dream on) is a way to work dependencies, mod compatibilities, and changing subcomponents into the tool without the need of having a university degree in programming. I really have no idea what I am talking about here but some way of using a tool where e.g. the modder can click things like "my mod / subcomponent x needs to be installed before mod y" or something for setting up the installer for players would make it more realistic that modders would do it themselves.

 

Because, we have either mods that get maintained - which, currently, is "unfortunate" because the BWS info is outdated. -> Here we would have modders who would be available for the needed compatibility info.

Or we have mods that don't get updated / maintained which currently is "good" because the BWS and Fixpack data doesn't get outdated. -> Here we don't have modders available but that's not necessary, so.

I don't know about this, but as they have the GoG version of the game, they could not update their game, which invalidates your response as well.
As for needing the patch, yeah... there might be a few mods that do, but I bet most can live without the few opcode changes they bring into their game.
As most of the mods will work without the patch. *

*Note, that this was after the standard response of asking them to update their game... so using the file from the post, the user needs to already be aware of the fault, as they can't fix it.

@jastey: There was or still is an admin-GUI built in the GUI. Go to the mod selection, screen, select Options from the menu in the upper left corner and there is the administration-menu.

You could try and see if this still produces some valid output -- and if the files get written in the correct folders and so. Since I really don't follow this much, I'd also strongly recommend to see if the things you imported are still logically the same as you exported. Or just create a new set of instructions with a unique name and see if you can copy and paste/append it to an existing configuration-file and how the BWS handles your new addition.

 

Maybe it could help you to understand the files better by having some sort of visualization...

 

@jastey II: I remind those nitpicking discussions about version numbers years ago. Some wanted to stick with those since they did not know what the expected version would be when they wanted to do the download. Good days when you searched and found a site with stone-old versions... or Leonardos PDF telling you which to get and people where on alert if the BWS would fetch the right one if they wanted the BWS to do the download only and do a manual installation later.

 

@guest: Concerning the "Russian mod installation" on English selection: It's not the next mod that is installed but that is processed... You would not end up with a mod that was not selected -- or at least that's what I assume.
