BG1UB: BWPFixpack'd please report this to AstroBryGuy

CrossmodBG2: It's missing the crossmodbg2/media/blank.log file in your install for some reason (it's a zero byte file - did it somehow get deleted?) The mod package has no problems

EDIT: Now why in blazes are you pointing to the test branch again? :blink: Please don't do this :(

Any reason why these aren't used for crossmodbg2?

Also, as mentioned earlier, please don't directly link to master branches unless they have separate WIP branches where things are developed - and pretty please don't link to these development branches at all for whatever reason. If a couple of fixes are not present in the master branch, it might be better to just make patches and commit them into the BWPFixpack rather than risk something like this.

While it might seem like the next failed installation report will bring any problems to light, what it actually does is reduce the BWS' credibility as a stable mod installation platform.

So, with regards to AstroBryGuy's post at PPG, just wait for him to create a new release rather than link to the master directly.

If it is really necessary to link to master for any mod (eg: Sandrah), please consider moving it to expert in order to not use players as installation guinea pigs (most people would just dump the BWS rather than report here when something fails if you get my drift)

We are trying to reduce the need for updating BWS links each time a mod is updated. The new lynxlynx URLs are dynamic redirects to the latest tagged release for GitHub projects, so it should be fairly stable.

link to master for any mod (eg: Sandrah).....

Maybe I do something wrong or it is just my specific use of the github feature - but since I am sole contributor to the Sandrah mod, the actual *master* and and all its branches reside on my computer and hard drives. What is pushed to github is the latest tested version of the mod, only due to the dynamics I do not call each enhancement a release. This maybe wordplay but it is my specific use of github, simply as a hosting system with the benefit that I can update frequently without the need to change download links each time.

I think I will implement the concept of "Testing" type mods instead of "Tactical" type mods (the concept of tactical components will remain unchanged) and then classify mods with links to GitHub master as Testing type. This will be for mods that are changing frequently enough that the author does not want to create releases yet.

For mods that have releases but also a test branch, we might want a user option in BWS to decide whether to use the test branch or the last release. Personally I always want the test branch because I do not mind debugging. Most users want stable, I think.

Oh, dear.

Lollorian, could you please explain to me in a dumbed down version what I did wrong, and what I should do instead (PM me if you wish). I fear that I am an uber-noob in this matter and have no wish to tarnish the credibility of BWS through my ignorance. I only wish to understand in what ways I'm capable of helping and what, where, and how to report issues.

Ser Elryk, you did nothing wrong. Lollorian is advocating a change in policy for how we maintain the download links that BWS uses.

More explanation: BWS has a download link for each mod. Historically we had to update the links whenever a mod was updated to a new version. Recently some mods have been hosted on GitHub. If a mod is on GitHub, there are special types of download links called "master" links (I am simplifying here). These links always download the very latest change that a mod author has made, so if the author is not careful, these links are not always downloading a stable version. This is why Lollorian is recommending that we do not use these master links for BWS.

@agb1:

I'm specifically talking about the instance where bg1ub's test branch was linked - the lynxlynx URL redirect is also a nice feature which is in line with what I suggested (link to proper releases instead of any branch)

Also, please wait for Leonardo's input a bit before going ahead with the "Testing" category (how many mods qualify for "Testing" btw?)

@Roxanne:

I understand the reasoning and it seems you test it before install yes so sorry for clubbing her under the installation guinea pigs set of mods, but Sandrah was moved to Expert for different reasons (it being in perpetual beta)

@Ser Elryk:

Hey no worries my post wasn't aimed at you :P

Some candidates

BG1 Unfinished Business v 14

SCS v 3,0 (see Gibberlings3 ongoing analysis of the mod)

Item Revison v 3.0 (same as SCS)

Gahesh

Aran Whitehand (says so, not sure, personally think it is rather mature)

Jastey’s Solaufein Alpha

Unfinished Business for BGII v26 beta

Throne of Bhaal Revisited beta 4 (was Expert in earlier discussion but reason why fits for Testing now)

SandrahNPC + SandrahRtF

W-Gui

Since the BWS pulls the BWPFixpack master, this should already be fixed :P

Throne of Bhaal Revisited beta 4 (was Expert in earlier discussion but reason why fits for Testing now)

Isn't this unsupported now? I'd say Expert more than Testing

BG1 Unfinished Business v 14

Item Revison v 3.0 (same as SCS)

Unfinished Business for BGII v26 beta

There are stable versions of these out there - consider linking the stable versions as Standard mods rather than development versions as Testing :lol:

SCS v 3,0 (see Gibberlings3 ongoing analysis of the mod)

This was supposed to a stable release, not a beta or testing mod - the analysis part screams Expert rather than testing

Gahesh

Aran Whitehand

Jastey’s Solaufein Alpha

SandrahNPC + SandrahRtF

So all alpha/beta mods with active support can go in this category - agreed

W-Gui

This is pretty stable - why Testing? :unsure:

SCS v 3,0 (see Gibberlings3 ongoing analysis of the mod)
Sorry, but it's version 30, not 3,0 ... the reason why the "analysis" thread is so long is that there hasn't been an update for quite some time, it's one of the most popular mods to throw in to a combination with mods, and including megamoded games, it was stable on it's own. Add BP and you'll have a whole lot of messes, especially if you have 50+ other mods that break all sorts of stuff, just like the BP without the entity fixer(what ever its name is now)... Or add the Spell Revision, Item Revisons or others and depending which version you throw at it, you'll have different kinds of mess each time... the mods were/are developped at the same site, so they spill over a whole lots. The SCS ones tried to incorporate the SR, IR etc, but those version 2's, not betas of the v4's.
The SCS has been in the BWP installs from sinse the BWP even came out, cause the SCS(I) enhanced the BG1 AI in BGT-weidu, and the SCS(II) did the same for BG2 portion. The BP hasn't been until recently when the v181 came out, after the component slice and dize.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

W-GUI is not under active development, so I would consider it either Stable or Expert.  At the moment I don't know of any problems with it, so it is Stable.
