Hello,

I was wondering if there is any way to buy (rather than download) the Big World Project, like on CDs or some other form of media. The point to doing this is so that it would work when I install it when I tell it to install it without undue complication, the same as any other game works when it is installed from a CD.

I first tried to install BWP on my Windows 7 laptop in 2011. I spent several hours a day troubleshooting it for months and posted questions on several forums and used the advice that people gave me, all to no avail. Ultimately, it just wouldn't work. I was eventually and with extreme difficulty able to get a handful of individual mods to work on my computer. These were SCS, Shadows over Soubar, Assassins, and one more the name of which I have forgotten. None of these worked perfectly, but my game was much improved for having them.

Now my laptop is dying. Many of my programs are no longer working and while Baldur's Gate still works at the moment, it is inevitable that my computer will either die completely or that I will need to wipe the hard drive.  Either way, I will lose those few mods that I spent all that time getting to work.  now have a job and am going to school full time, so I simply haven't the time to work full time troubleshooting for another six months getting those mods to work again, but I definitely want to continue to play Baldur's Gate.

I bought a used laptop on eBay recently because I was under the, as it turns out, very mistaken impression that BWP would be more inclined to work on an XP computer than on Windows 7 because that is what someone told me back in 2011 when I was first trying to figure this out. Their reasoning being that BWP was designed for XP.  Anyway, BWP rejected my XP laptop just as quickly and surely as it rejected my Windows 7 laptop.

BWP sounds like a great game and I would very much like to play it, I am just realistic enough to understand that it is never going to happen if I continue to download copies of it and follow the instructions on this or other websites since the end result every time I have done this for the past two years is that they never work on my computer.

Since there are clearly many people on here who (magically?) can get BWP to work, I thought that maybe it would be possible to buy a CD version that I can just install and as I would any other program and that it would just work or that in some other capacity I could somehow get BWP to work on my computer in a way other than what I have been doing in the past.

In case it is important, I am hoping to get the Tactics version of BWP.  If I can customize beyond that, I would, ideally, like to get mods that add content (quests, NPCs, items, areas, etc.) and make the game more challenging, but do not take anything away, lower the level cap, nerf items, prevent me from importing, or in any other away impede on my ability to have my party continue to advance.

Thanks!

No... first of all it would totally be illegal from the copy right point of view, and secondly there would be errors.

As for the Windows and what not, the OS doesn't matter as long as you take the normal standard procedures into account when you install an old game like this... well and starting the BWS with Admins rights.

And for you to get the BWP Tactical version, the only thing you need to do is to get the BWS and run the Tactical Compilation on it...

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

If you only want to keep your current install, copy and paste the complete game-folder to your new laptop, edit the baldur.ini and start via bgmain.exe.
THINK! - It's not illegal.
