Hi, new here but I've played BG2 for so many hours I lost count. In the past I've attempted a mega-install but it was still in the days of Big Picture and due to difficulty to get it to work and real-life I ended up shelving BG2.

Only recently when I came upon this site and getting up-to-date with all the new developements I decided to give it another wirl. For the most part I am happy and am enjoying the game, although starting at level 1 with BGT was a bit of a shock when you're used to starting at level 8 with a bunch of spell slots. :P

I noticed that at some point both Viconia and Jaheira no longer had their bonus priest spells/slots and after checking some older saves I discovered that they lost them as soon as I leveled them up. I have no idea where this bug (it is a bug, right?) might come from so I figured I'd ask the experts. I hope someone will recognize this bug and point out an obvious mistake I made.

Here is the WeiDU log, I used BWS with the exception of iiSpellSystemAdjustments which I forgot to add and I didn't want to re-install everything again.

Erhm whcih bonus spell slots ?
Do they come from items(which item), from a specific kit, etc, ??? Every thing you can comment that might clarify this is definitely helpful.
As for example the items, there are several that gives the character a bonus slot, but the game rearranges the character at the level up, which might lead them to temporarily unequip the items which leads might lead to them loosing the bonus temporarily and as such you loose the memorized spell even though you still have the slot assigned...

And you do know that the character needs to rest after they level up to use their new abilities, say casting the fifth 4lvl spell when they get that slots, as the iiSpellAdjustment mod allows characters to regain casted spells not gain aguired slots as the spell is not yet casted so there's nothing to regain yet, nor even a spell assigned yet.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

I'm talking about the number of priest spells Viconia can memorize. When she first joins my party (in the BG1-part) she can memorize 6 lvl 1 priest spells, and in her character screen you can see +2 Level 1 Bonus Priest Spells. But when I level her up she can suddenly only memorize 4 level 1 priest spells. Yet her character screen still shows +2 Level 1 Bonus Priest Spells.

P.S. Sorry for the black-and-white, it seems the screenshots ended up that way....

While it looks like there is a bug in your game, I kinda doubt that 'losing 2 bonus spells' is the buggy part. It is more likely the game correcting itself in regards to the illegal bonus spells Vicy and Jaheira had pre-leveling.

In an unmodded game a cleric gains his 4th level1 spell slot once he reaches level 9. That means in order to have 6 legal level1 spell slots, Vicy would have to be level 9 as well (4 base slots + 2 bonus slots from wisdom = 6 slots).

If she is currently level 2 or 3, 4 level1 spell slots are exactly what she is supposed to have. :)

(Obviously, if any of the mods you installed alters the cleric spell progression, I'm wrong with my assumptions..)

Hmm I see. Makes sense, guess I'll just have to learn to live with 4 priest spells. Thanks for the anwser. :)

Yep, at level one and two... notes that you actually gain a level 2 spell at character level 3 and 4... ouh and you gain the bonus spells from her wisdom, so you end up with 8 spells(total) slots at level 4.

Don't wanna be a smartass, but since you're the Imp and all.. actually on level 1 he/she would only have 3 spells (1 base + 2 wisdom). :D

Ouh, but where's the point on being an ass if you can't be start about it ? ... or was it: Where's to point in being smart if you can't be an ass about it ? Either way it gives the points in my book... but I kinda ment... darn, I'll show you ! :mad laughter:

But as the discussion was about having problems after leveling up, one would assume the 4 is after the level up from level one... as you can do that only to level 2, or to 3, 4... unless one install the SCS'es proficiency component that actually just sets the character level to 0 and then corrects the editions it makes to the character file after you level up to 1. But as such component was not installed, one can only level up to positive values above 1... look who looks now really smart ass! Me.

While you may be right about that (in your own little twisted sense of logic, that is :D) it doesn't make your previous statement any less incorrect. :P

Anyway, while I enjoy spamming the forums too, let's call it even and restrict ourselves from getting too 'spammy', or we might end up getting banned for spamming. ;)

I can confirm that Jaheira starts with 5 slots at level 1 and goes down to 4 once at level 2.

Happy to learn that it's (kinda) supposed to be that way!
