I am currently following the Big World Project PDF as a guide for install order.

I have downloaded all the mods I would like to use.

Following the guide, I am installing the desired mods one by one in the order they are presented.

According to the guide, some mods must be altered or patched using the BWP Fixpack. However, I noticed the BWP Fixpack folder contains changes to mods that are not indicated (by a wrench symbol and an accompanying paragraph) as needing an alteration.

1) Is BWP Fixpack necessary if installing mods manually one by one?

2) Do these mods ( that are not indicated as needing to be patched in the PDF, but have a folder in the Fixpack) need to be patched, if being installed manually?

3) Is it possible to choose what mods to fix with BWP Fixpack?

4) If not, can I run Fixpack.bat in the folder with a certain mod, ensuring it only changes that mod? I tried doing this and it runs but reaches an error..

Separately, is there a way to run the Big World Setup and also choose which mods and which components of each mods to install and use?

Yes... what you should actually do is run the BWP Install.bat, it will install all the mods you have downloaded and extracted to the game directory ... it will also install the BWP Fixpack etc...

As for the last unmarked question about the BWS- What you should have originally done is just run the BWS, and choose the option to customize the install ... that is indicated in the FAQ answer 3's picture.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

1. Yes

2. Yes (the documentation is just not updated fully)

3. No

4. Yes that should work.

Also, if the patching is "necessary" or not depends on a few things.

First, for some mods, yes it is necessary because it modifies the mods in question to be compatible with other mods. Meaning if you don't patch them, they will ruin your installation.

And secondly, for some mods the fixpack fixes bugs that have not been solved yet in the original mod. Hence not "necessary" as such.

And if you wonder what mods just gets fixed and which ones actually needs the fixpack, I can't answer that because I don't think this is specifically documented (I may be wrong). But you should realize that this does not matter much, because the fixpack is made to be installed on every installation. It's no risk with it, and it should not be seen as a hassle - it is a privilege to use it. It fixes long standing bugs in mods that don't get updated anymore, some severe and some less so. Much community effort has gone into the fixes that gets incorporated in it, and there really are no reasons to not install it.

Just don't extract the mods you don't want to be fixed into the same folder with the fixpack before you run it: It will only fix mods that it can find.

Also take a look at it sub-folder _BWP_compatibiltiy. There are some fixes in the folders in there that are only used if you run the BiG World Install.bat since those are copied from there into the BiG World Fixpack folder (and thus are available for patching).
So if you want NEJ2 fixes and wonder why they are not used, it's because they are in that _BWP-folder and are not copied and thus are not available.
Those are described as "BWP only" fixes, but I'm not so sure about that, so you might want to take a look.

And knowing that, you could also assume that you can delete/move unwanted patches from the BiG World Fixpack-folder.
I might also add that I don't know why you wouldn't want those fixes...
