Hi!

 

NPC interaction is to many gamers one of the most compelling aspects of the Baldur's Gate series but due to the unfortunate limitations of the Infinity Engine, the player has to make careful choices about what NPCs they drag along with them (and Edwin ALWAYS has a place at my side! ). 

 

Obviously, opinion is subjective but hopefully if lots of people participate in this poll newcomers or oldies coming back can get a good idea who some of the fan favorites are.  You can choose multiple choices, so if you play a mod down the road that you really like, you can come back and add that to your recommendations list.  If I missed an NPC mod, please let me know and I'll add it to the poll choices.  Moderators, please feel free to edit my poll if I'm not around.

 

And, please, this thread is a place for positivity.  Please feel free to reply and share reasons you enjoyed a particular mod and highlight it's positive aspects.  This thread is ABSOLUTELY NOT the place for bashing other people's hard work, arguing with other posters as to which mod is better, or "constructive criticism".  Please, be nice!

The NPC list you got this from is out of date. Isra and Valerie have both been released for BG1.

I haven't played many BG1 NPCs (simply because I only BG1 a couple of times, I usually tend to gravitate towards BG2), but Gavin is definitely a favorite of mine.  He's a very well-rounded character, fits in beautiful, and is extremely well-written.  Definitely give him a try if you get the chance.

BG1 NPC! Preferably with Ajantis's Expansion, Coran's friendship, Garrick's flirtation and Xan's friednship.

Heh, I didn't even mention the BG1NPC project, because I figured that we were talking about non-vanilla NPCs.  I can't play BG1 without the BG1NPC project, though.

I figure since vanilla NPCs are practically silent(I don't know how much content DSOTSC/NTotSC/Drizzt Saga NPCs have, by the way) - they're practically 25 new NPCs, from Ajantis to Yeslick. 

And I've recently spied a few new NPC mods for BG1(+BG2 later, probably) in the making - hard to believe it was only Finch, Indira and Mur'Neth once upon a time.

Definitely props for the BG1NPC project, but since most people have played with most of the vanilla NPC's I didn't include them in either poll even though all the BG2 extenders are great too!  I did this poll for the intention of figuring out what entirely user made NPCs that, unfortunately, I'm bad about skipping in past playthrus I absolutely can't skip!
