I'm looking into playing through this game, and I'm in a bit of a dilemma whether to use the IWD-in-BG2 thingy or just plain IWD with the few mods available.

Can someone give me a quick rundown of the main pros and cons of either?
I understand there's no dual-wielding in the original game, which kind of sucks most of all.

And also some of you may have played IWD-in-BG2. Is it stable? Or way too many bugs to enjoy the game?

edit: I may have put this post in the wrong forum

DavidW released many, many beta versions before the current version became stable, and there were quite a few testers. I tested earlier versions of IWD-in-BG2; the latest one I tested was pretty stable(and there were ones after it). IWD-in-BG2 has obvious advantages of BG2 classes, playing style, familiarity, and so on. I played plain IWD, though, and it was good, too. If you are about to do a playthrough, I'd recommend IWD-in-BG2. But I'm a sorcerer fan.

(And, yep, if you want talking NPCs, you could install IWD NPC. :) )

I've seen that the original game has some mods for rules up to level 40.

Does the IWD-in-BG2 have this stuff, or is it capped somewhere?

I think I'm almost decided to try IWD-in-BG2, though. Not a sorcerer fan, but a dual-wielding fan. :)

It's got ToB as a mandatory part of the install, so it should have, if I understood you correctly. Anyway, read this:

http://forums.gibber...showtopic=23715 - installing stuff;

http://forums.gibber...showtopic=17131 - mods for the installation(I'd recommend installing mods only after making a quick clean backup - both .exe files, override directory, dialog.tlk, chitin.key, and probably the .ini files).

Just to throw this in here but I really enjoyed IWD NPCs. A very nice set of characters if you want a more BG-style experience.

Read through all of it - that settles it. It seems like the best way to do a playthrough I've never finished back in 2002 :P

Thanks!

Yes, they seem like quality characters, so unlike BG1 vanilla NPCs. :) .. except Kivan

From my understanding the loot in IWD is randomised more than it is in BG. This might make the very particular weapon proficiencies in the BG system really frustrating.

Apart from that, it's probably personal preference on the game system.

 I'm a sorcerer fan.

I haven't played IWD in BG2, but I can imagine that sorcerers would be much better than mages in IWD.
