IWD An Assertion failed in Infinity.cpp at line number 840

IWD with 1PP 4.1.0 had an Assertion error on Kresslack's Tomb Level 3.

I had a hunch it was the helmet component and removed it and the the error went away. The culprit is probably Spectral Guards (the helmet and sword animation creatures). Thought you should know.

Aha. I can confirm this. Just ran into the exact same problem; attempting to transition into level 3 of Kresselack's Tomb immediately provoked a crash to desktop without the level loading, and an identical assertion error message was displayed. Removing the "Additional Helmet Animations (core)" component of 1pp v.4.10 from Icewind Dale's installation allowed the level transition to successfully occur once I'd reloaded the autosave.

I tested the following two temporary fixes for this issue.

Select:
1. Open NI, select helm08.itm, change 'Equipped appearance' from 'JC' to 'J8' (hex '4a 43' to '4a 38')

OR:

2. Make a copy of all 'WP?J8*.BAM' from the games override folder, rename them to 'WP?JC*.BAM' and put all but wp?jcinv.bam back into the
games override folder.

Choose only one of the above, use on your own risk...

Observation:
I don't fully understand the whole animation stuff, so I might get it all wrong...
From what I figured from the tp2, J8 and JC using the same in-game animations.
The wierd thing is, the helm by itself seems to be fine, because you can cheat it into your inventory and wear it all ok. It seems to be, that the spectral guards use the wp*.bam instead of the wq*.bam for animation. Since they are missing, the game crashes.

I would really appreciate, if someone more expert could enlighten me on this topic.

Same problem here. It is also present in BG tutu in ulcaster ruins with Icharyd and skeleton mage below (with improved encounter installed). Both of them wear new improved helmets.

I had the same thing happen. Mike's fix worked for me! I do wish I had known about it before I tried to fix it myself, though. Other than this tiny issue, I love this mod!

Got the same issue and this fixed it for me as well, thanks for the fix Mike!

Shame it hasn't been incorporated into the mod in all the years since bug, and even fix, was found.
