I ran into a problem using the Big World Project. Xan can't use his moonblade (Baldur's Gate 1 part of the BWP). It's listed as a Short Sword, but he only got proficiency in Dagger.

I ran into a problem using the Big World Project. Xan can't use his moonblade (Baldur's Gate 1 part of the BWP). It's listed as a Short Sword, but he only got proficiency in Dagger.
What to do?

Run the Shadowkeeper, check the moonblade item name on his inventory, and then --change-log the item, with <itemcode>.itm ... and it gives you backup options to use, as you just need to remove the .0000x. in the item name and put that to the override directory.

Have you changed Xan's proficiencies in BG1NPC? Have you changed his stat points?
This is most likely the reason why he is not able to use his sword.

Would be great if someone having this problem could post the exact Stats that Xan has (STR, DEX, INT etc) as well as what proficiencies and class/kit he is in your game. Also, please attach whatever Moonblade ITM you have in your inventory (use Shadowkeeper/NearInfinity to export it - maybe it's a different one than SW1H13.ITM? ) so that someone can check what restrictions it has...

THEN we can try figuring out whether the problem is in Xan or his Moonblade

Checked with SK (after Xan Join in) : it's SW1H13.ITM.
I have extracted with NI, but I can't find a way to upload a file. The file is attached.

Is Xan an Elf in your game? And his alignment, is it Lawful Neutral? Those are the only remaining restrictions on the item...

Also to make sure, the item is unusable because it shows up with a red overlay in the inventory yes? Because trying to equip the Moonblade on another non-Xan character with exactly the same stats, race and alignment witll still not let you use it because of the engine (even though it may show up usable in the inventory)

Looks like some mod, other than BG1NPC has changed his stats, proficiencies, etc. I don't think the problem is in the item.

I tested out the ITM that Fouinto attached on a new Elven Sorceror with Xan's exact same stats (that he posted ) and CLUAed in Xan (and Ctrl+Q'ed him into my party to test)... The attached ITM is equippable by Xan (although he's an Enchanter in my game) and shows up usable by my Sorceror, so yeah I'd think the problem is in Xan




A race and alignment check on the Xan in your games would do good If he's not Elven and Lawful Neutral in your game, please do a changelog of XAN4.CRE and/or XAN6.CRE

I'm clueless now Both your CREs can wield your attached SW1H13.ITM properly in my game... Clueless where to start looking now

Hmmmm... may be I did something wrong !
I a m sure of the item (I checked a savegame with SK to be sure of the item).
But how can I check which Xan is mine ?

According to NI, there are 4 Xan :
BGXAN
TTXAN
XAN4
XAN6

Ah I forgot BGXAN TTXAN is tutorial Xan

Could you please do a simple test? Create a new BGI character and right after that Candlekeep intro,

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature('BGXAN')
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature('XAN4')
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature('XAN6')
CLUAConsole:CreateItem('SW1H13')

Ctrl + Q each Xan to make them join and pass the Moonblade to each of them... Check if they can equip it

If one of them can't, the culprit is probably BGXAN, so you might wanna upload BGXAN.cre
If all of them can't, then I dunno
If all of them can equip it, the Xan in your main party (regular savegame) probably has something freaky on him... which means you'll probably have to upload your savegame to debug it further

I never play with Xan. Each time I play, I just take it with me and then leave him there...
But it's not the first time I see that he can't use its moon blade... It's very strange

I guess all that remains is for someone with the actual problem to do what this post says, post their results and upload BGXAN.CRE, XAN4,CRE, XAN6.CRE and SW1H13.ITM (export them using NearInfinity/Shadowkeeper) or their savegame if all of the Xans can equip the blade but the Xan in their savegame cannot
