What does "shut down" exactly mean? Even if the female pc doesn't romance him, he will ignore Aerie? Sorry, but this seems interesting to me...

Propably in this context it means that if the PC is a female, Haer'dalis won't romance Aerie. Nor the other way around.
Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

IIRC, they have some of their first couple banters, but it cuts off before they do or say anything romantic to each other.

I've tried to look into this since I really do want to see the HD-Aerie Romance at some point but never have, which I assume to be due to having had this mod as part of my install for a while. However, it seems that it isn't actually just this mod which disables the HD-Aerie Romance, but rather that vanilla haerdali.bcs is coded in a way never to advance beyond LT13 without the conflict for Aerie's affection between HD and a male Charname in the first place, meaning that female PCs won't get to see it anyway. I just thought I should leave this here for reference should someone else find themselves wondering about it.
EDIT: Scratch that, I seem to have been entirely mistaken. Without the love triangle, Aerie and HD should still get together in vanilla, simply skipping the relevant dialogues. This mod, however, indeed disables their romance right from the get-go if the player is female (which seems a bit overkill; it would be better to only do so if Haer'Dalis is actually romanced by Charname).
