Okay I feel like I am gonna scream.. I've had to reinstall it several times already, and I finally got everything I wanted/needed into it and tried to start it up... rolled amazing stats.. (two 18s, and nothing else lower than 14). Watched the BG1 video (nostalgia) and sat and listend to the Chapte 1 intro.... and then clicked play....

Game starts up.. for about 1/2 a second everything seems fine...then game freezes....(used to do that while it was saving, I remembered)....but it never unfroze...and an error box had popped up behind the game... "Stopped responding"..

So it CTD. Not sure if it was an error in some element in Candlekeep, or if the autosave caused a crash. (Happens every time).... Tried that Logging in = 1 thing, but no reports in Baldur.err.

One forum suggested "Save" might be read only....don't have a save folder yet...can't even get the first one in. (So lost my awesome roll...will take me 300 clicks to get that again...)

So...I just undid read-only in the whole folder...just in case.

Didn't Work.

So tried an experiment: Started a BG2 newgame from start of BG2 instead....Movie worked (though couldnt skip), cutscene worked, conversation worked,.....autosave...WORKED!

So...it must be candlekeep or BG1 right?

Here's my WEIDU.

Spoiler

I could really use some help...and preferably not of the "Try a fresh reinstallation" variety.

Edit: I installed following the guide oulined on GoG.. but using my own discs (new ones on DvDs...only need patch for TOTSC)

Edit2: I..may have also place this in the wrong section of the forums...

There's no auto-save at the start of BG1. What does the error box say besides "Stopped responding" ?

Possibly an issue related to Candlekeep and its area script... like a creature scripted spawn with broken animation or items in wrong slots... no clue really. Just in case, did you patch your ToB game before installing mods?

Nothing. It is the standard windows 7 "BG2.exe (or w/e) had stopped responding"...when clicking on details it says "Application Crash".

As far as ToB patch, I'm unsure. I always figured that since my CDs were on DvDs and purchased long after the original patch sites went down, that they were up to date.

But I did have to get a ToTSC patch to install BGT... so maybe not..

What's the latest version I need...

I guess I may have to reinstall. :( (Less time than undoing every Weidu, patchings, then re-doing every WEIDu.

EDIT-EDIT-EDIT:

SON OF A BIT-....ahem.

It's Widescreen mod! i randomly uninstalled it (cause hey, why the hell not try..) and the game started fine.

.....but I need my widescreen..... ran it at 1920 X 1080..... thoughts?

-----------------------More Trouble shooting------------------------------
...1600 x 900 works...but not 1920 x 1080.

Windowed: 1800x1012 works, but not 1900 x 1068 (This is me testing random numbers to find the sweet spot on a 16:9 ratio...though lets try outside the ratio)

1920 x 960....patch fails, along with 1900 x 950.....unusual ratio are expectedly problematic. (Nm, the results are flawed...soemthing happened during one crash making editing BGmain.exe impossible...restarting computer.

...1600 x 900 works...but not 1920 x 1080.

Try the biggest resolution setting you can get out of your monitor/computer... use the Windows Personalize/Set Resolution interface to know that, that you get by right clicking the Desktop.

One forum suggested "Save" might be read only....don't have a save folder yet...can't even get the first one in. (So lost my awesome roll...will take me 300 clicks to get that again...)

The problem is that you installed to the Program Files sub-folder, and Windows Idiotizicing itself, that you need to get rid of via new install.

IT's 1920 x 1080..the one that crashed.

Course, my exprimentation seems to have royally screwed up BGMain.exe...it won't change it anymore....time to see if theres a patch i guess?

And this time i'm making a backup folder

Edit: Also... 1900 X 950 is...pretty nice windowed.

I'll pick it up in the morning..problem is on hold to see if the issue is still there after re-installing all the Weidu.

Case closed... Not sure what was wrong, but ended up doing the full reinstall.... added the TOB patch for the hell of it, just in case it wasnt on the DVD.

Game started fine without freezing on 1920X1080.

Few things I did differently:

-The ToB patch
-Configured BG2 before even attempting to install the widescreen mod.
-Upped The Wild Magic and familiar mods to before Bg2 Tweaks.

It's in C:\Games\BGII - SOA\
