Hey guys,

This is my first post on this forum, and I apologize for the length of it, but I'm at wits end.
I've spent the past few days of my vacation trying to install a big world modification.

At first I was using a version of the baldurs gate games that I purchased on amazon.com which are dvds.
I was getting a cyclic redundancy check even though the dvds are brand new.

So I just purchased the gog version of bg1+bg2+expansions and am trying to install a tactics installation of big world project.

I've followed many guides and this post is my last resort.
I've installed both bg1 and bg2 into the following C:\games directory
I've followed these steps http://www.shsforums...r-the-megamods/
which include changing the [alias] information in the .ini file and renaming a readme.txt file
and also moving a 25movies.bif file

I am using what appears to be the latest bwp installer found here http://kerzenburg.ba...nloads.php?id=2

I run the .exe from the C:\games folder and everything looks fine.. building dependencies and gui.. all fine

so I see there are a few versions of the installation, and maybe I shouldn't be playing a tactics installation, but I'd really like some more challenge to the game as I've beaten it about 20+ times..

I select the tactics mod and remove the component npc music project pack, because on my other pcs working version of bwp the new music annoyed me.

anyway I press continue and create a back up.
select resolution of 1280x1024 and continue

Here I get a warning saying that some expert mods are being installed:
Askaria quest mod(inklusive chaosknight kit)
chaosknight kid
never ending journey 2 v6.80
tortured souls (i'd like to try)
lost crossroads spell pack for bg2 (beta) and this also sounds fun
never ending journey 2v6.80
never ending journey 2v6.80 (yes it's repeated twice... should I go back and try to change these?)

I do what I've done 10 times now and press continue anyway

I watch the download process which takes an hour or so. (do I have to keep re-downloading these every installation attempt?) or can I just keep them hanging around somewhere?

I am then confronted with this message:

The following mod(s) could not be downloaded:

Eilistraee's Song: The Mod itself (Eilistraee v3.1.zip)

The following mods cannot be installed because of missing dependence:

BGT NPC Portraits:
1430: Portraits for Eilistraees Song

Some files could not be downloaded with the "BiG World Setup". Do you want the BWS to try to load the mods again, provide the files yourself
(see remarks) or just continue?
Enter [r]etry, [p]rovide or [c]ontinue.

I've tried to find this mod, and it doesn't seem like a huge deal so i press continue, and get:

The installation should be able to run properly.
Missing mods, which were needed, can ruin the installation.
Check if you need the mods, which you could not downloaded.
For safety reasons, the mods will be removed from the install-list and will be ignored from now on.
Enter [r]emove missing mods or [e]xit.

I press [r] and watch the extraction.

I then disconnect from the internet and watch the silent extraction.
At first everything seems normal, a few command boxes flying up and closing instantly and then BAM.. blue screen of death.... :(

This has happened to me 3-4 times today since buying the gog.com version.. my other dvds didn't do this, but there was a cyclic redundancy error, so here's what I'm stuck with.

Do I have to reinstall the entire thing each time after doing this? because I have been..

any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

You could just resume the install from there...

Look into BiG World Setup\Logs-folder and see what's there.
The BiG World Install Debug.txt should not be present as far as you describe it.

If there was a warning that the silent extraction of files starts and you should close those windows if it did not close by itself, you could look into the BG2-folder and look for a folder named NSIS. If there is one, move its content into the BG2-folder.

Then look into the BG2-folder and search for exe-files that are NSIS-installers. Open a CMD, go to your folder by using cd /D "myfolder" (and replacing myfolder with the actual path) and the findstr /M NSIS *.exe. The output are the NSIS installers that are present in the BG2-dir. If there is one that has no setup in your BG2-folder, you could try to run it and see if your computer crashes. Otherwise remove those NSIS-installers.
Then try to start the resume the BWS again. It will not find NSIS-installers to proceed and continue with the installation (extracting Infinity Animations, doing some tiny "fixes" for some mods, deleting files if the mods did not extract correctly and the continue with testing if all files for installation are present that are shown in another BWS-dialogue-box like you saw after the download.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

Heya!

Thanks for the quick reply. When you say resume the download from where I was.. do you mean start up the big world setup.exe again? or try running the install.bat? I currently just uninstalled everything from scratch.. ran ccleaner and defragged.. big world setup is now re-downloading all of the mods into
c:\games\BGII - SoA

I'm quite sure that it will crash again during the silent extraction.. in which case I will try hunting down these NSIS.exe files you speak of, but the easier thing sounds like just trying to resume the installation a few times... can you go into a bit more detail on how you would resume from the silent extraction not finishing?

Sorry I am not very familiar with this whole modding process and I appreciate your help!
thank you

Uhm, it's right at your fingertips in the first screen of the BWS.

Since the beginning... [blah]... If the program was closed during the process, you can start it again by clicking the BiG World Setup.vbs and continue from there on.

So just choose that file (located wherever you said the program should be extracted to). You are asked if you want to continue or not, so resume and the BWS goes from there.
Note that the download-folder is located in the same folder per default. If you delete the folder it is located in, the BWS will have to download them again. As far as I understand you, that's what you did.
If you keep that download-folder somewhere, only new files are needed.
If you have problems with the BWS detecting existing files, you may want to try the download-logic "No download - only report missing mods". That will just assume that it will find the mods in the folder that it was told to use. If the files are not found, they are reported as missing and you can provide them and force the BWS to use those files you think/know are the correct ones.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

Thanks again..
I went through and moved the contents of the nsis folder to my bg2 folder where all the mods are.
I was asked to overwrite the "override" folder.. but instead i just moved its contents into the override folder that was already there..
It's still crashing to a blue screen during silent extraction :( many many times now.

my question is now.. can i skip this silent extraction and maybe extract the files myself?
everything looks to be extracted already all I see are setup.exe and many folders with the mod names on them.

Do you think if I went into command and ran big world install.bat that it might work alright? or should I really find a way to finish this silent extraction?

currently I am running some scans on my pc to make sure that the problem isn't a virus or malware etc.

thanks for the help! I am totally stuck and just want to play! 5 days installing.. 3 days left of vacation :*(

This file does not have a program associate with it for performing this action. Please isntall a program or, if this one is already installed create an association in the default programs control panel.

This is when i select

Try this made by William Imm for GOG versions. You can find the same link in his signature if you don't truse this one :D

Um, if you'd have searched for the files and deleted those NSIS-files, I guess you would have no crashes.
If you are curious, those silent extractions are listed in BiG World Setup\Logs\BiG World Extract Debug.txt. At the bottom, the files that are worked on are listed as >%FILE%, which would be >XanBG1Friend_v6.exe or something.

You might want to try to add an IF to the line 342 so it looks like that:
IF %BG1%goggame.dll GOTO :TOBCHECK
Someone might want to tell Leonardo about that. So who want some :cookie:?

I think you get some warnings that you edited the code if you do though. If you don't want to, play with cksum.
I don't know if that linked file is from the BWP 11.1.4 nor want to check the differences now.

Edit: Quick check:
-%IFE% Call %INST% JondalarFix "0"
+Call %INST% JondalarFix "0"

-%IFX% Call %INST% NeJ2v691 "0 1 3 5 6 8 10 11 12"
+%IFX% Call %INST% NeJ2v691 "0 1 3 5 6 7 8 10 11 12"

-%IFSD% Call %INST% DSotSC "0 100 200 400 410 420 430 440 450 460 470 480"
+%IFSD% Call %INST% DSotSC "0 5 11 100 200 400 410 420 430 440 450 460 470 480"

-%IFSD% Call %INST% NTotSC "0"
+%IFSD% Call %INST% NTotSC "0 5 11 20"

-%IFSD% Call %INST% nogameover "10"
+%IFSD% Call %INST% nogameover "100"

-%IFE% Call %INST% mapnames "0 25"
+Call %INST% mapnames "0 25"

So the Imms one does not install NEJ2s additional content, does not work with DSotSC and will not with NTotSC if it's edited, NoGameOver got the wrong number and some mods are installed in non-English environments.

Yeh I don't know either, it might be outdated. Maybe Leonardo has already introduced a GoG workaround in recent versions. I've been using BWS installation since I found out you resurrected it :) It works great and maybe better than batch file (especially the pause on error/warning is a godsend for manual fix)

Note: Listed the diffs above.

You can get the error-detection in the batch, too. Edit BiG World Installpack\install.bat, goto line 30 and remove that one so it looks like this:
REM exit /b 1
:: pause the installation of the mod since WeiDU did not return an errorlevel of 0 (12.2 WeiDU Return Values)
If Not "%errorlevel%" == "0" (
echo WeiDU has reported an error
	pause
)
exit /b 1
I don't know exactly why Leonardo got that out, guess he wanted the batch to run through again...

After reading your posts again I've given this a deeper look.

After running the silent extraction (which runs for half a minute then crashes to a blue screen of death)

BiG World Setup\Logs-folder and see what's there.
The BiG World Install Debug.txt is not there.
so now I am going to empty the contents of the NSIS folder into my bgii - soa folder

now I am going into my console (command prompt) and doing something like

cd c:\games\bgii - soa
dir
findstr /M NSIS *.exe
allisonv18.exe
assassinations_v8.exe
baldur.exe (should i delete this also?)
cespyaudiov1.exe
d0questpack_v23.exe
d0ttweak.exe
dearnisev3.exe
dungeonbegone-v16.exe
gharethnpc.exe
groa_v2.exe
impasylum.exe
jz-v4.exe
kelseynpc.exe
ket-soav3.exe
kitanyasoav6.exe
luxleysoa-v1-1.exe
nathanielv4-2.exe
ritempackv2.exe
shed'smods1.03.exe

so now i'm going to delete these files and try running big world setup silent extraction again

and it just crashed again.. same blue screen of death buring silent extraction.
so i noticed there was another NSIS folder created this second crash.. so i moved its contents into the bgII - soa folder

did another findstr /M NSIS *.exe and the result was empty.. so i guess that I killed all of those

now I will run another big world setup silent extraction and hope it doesn't crash yet again.

I just deleted my baldur's gate directory and bgii - soa directory and am trying a "total happiness" install.

I had backed up my 2 folders baldur's gate and bgii - soa into a .rar file so i unpacked them into c:\games
and ran a different version of big world setup.. now after a few more blue screens of death and restarts i'll see what happens during this install

"Failed to open target" messages likely means UAC / firewall / whatever security program interfering.

Did you follow these steps?

yep several times though I've done:

the UAC is off the
windows 7 firewall is off
and the program compatibility assistant is off though I had to do it like this:
http://www.howtogeek...ws-7-and-vista/

but I didn't clear the extra unessecary files step 2.6 or whatever it was. I'm now able to install via DVDs
so I don't have to use my gog.version (wasted 20$ I guess)

so I'll try to reinstall from scratch... use the uninstaller to remove bg1+bg2.. then delete the folders
then reinstall bg1+expansion then patch bg1
then reinstall bg2+expansion then patch bg2

then start both games up do quicksaves on bg1, bg2+ and tob

then download BiG_World_Setup-20120701_2.exe from http://kerzenburg.ba...nloads.php?id=2
then install BiG_World_Setup-20120701_2.exe to C:\BWP and start it up

I'll then select tactics version and remove a few mods that I dislike, create a backup (though I'm not sure why because I end up repeating this whole fresh install process over and over)

and continue

wish me luck, and please let me know if one of these steps seems out of order or if there's something else I should try.

The AutoIt3-error sounds just like a bug to me or something similar.

I cannot tell you what's going on there/what I wanted to check there without further debugging (that thing is a bit complex), but from the first glance I'd say that this line does not make sense at all.

(There is a split before and a string is split into two and not three pieces, thus would create a crash if looking for a third peace... I am just a bit puzzled what I wanted archive by doing that thing at the moment... I mean, I know what I wanted, but that does not match the code... ah well :tease: )

You could also have resumed at that point and try to install from that point again. :D

Also the BiG World Install.bat is not run by the BWS if you select to do the detailed install, since you cannot edit the batch that easily. But if you had problems and the batch does the job for you, that's fine.

If you'd just copy the whole BG2-folder before you start the installation-process (BWS tells you so or starts the batch if you chose that, so you know that, too), you can remove the faulty install and replace it with the copy you made.

Maybe WeiDU.exe is running somewhere in the background blocking its own replacement?

Ah yeh that's possible as well, I've had that a lot back in early stages of BWP, during extraction of NSIS packages some of them auto-launch their setup-modname.exe, the process is launched but the dos window never shows. Check in Task Manager processes if you don't have anything setup-modname.exe running before starting the installation (wether it is BWS-style or BWP-batch-style)

Thanks again guys!

I'll check for another weidu.exe in the task manager next time during the extraction.
but during the silent extraction it goes to a blue screen of death too quickly for me to do anything, and so far I haven't been able to avoid it. I can get passed the blue screen of death now but it takes several restarts and moving the NSIS folder into the data folder and hunting down NSIS files by using the findstring /M NSIS *.exe pointed out by Dabus (neat trick thanks)

Are there any other options for me to take? I'd like to play a tactical version of bg trilogy with ascension and very tough battles
I'd also like to try the huge extra mods like the darkest day and never ending journey etc.. drizzt saga also? and a few others
Is there a way to install this stuff by hand? I can probably narrow it down to 20-30 mods total

Or is big world setup the way to go? and
is BiG_World_Setup-20120701_2.exe the latest version that I should be using?

And would it be better to select "total happiness" then add all the mods I want on top of that?

I appreciate this help immensely!
