Problem with Near Infinity

near infinity not working problem

Hi, I've just starting dabbling into modding with the Infinite Engine, trying to create a new companion NPC, and I already have a big problem: near infinity does not work for me. I mean, I can start it, and edit my character, but then I can't save my changes, it just says 'Error saving CHARACTER.CHR'.

I tried using Convert CHR to CRE option, I get 'Error during conversion". I tried exporting my character, 'Error exporting CHARACTER.CHR'

Error, error, error, error, error, error... literally every option in the program gives me an error when I try to use it. Can anyone tell me why this is and how can I fix it? Or better yet find another program besides NearInfinity?

Do you have write permission to the directory you are trying to save the file to?

I just try to save it on my BG II folder. I'm not sure though, how do I go granting myself permittion to save the files?

I also have a bit strange problem with NI. I've made a new character and exported it, but I can open it in Near Infinity. Probably I forgot about something, but I've never used it earlier and I have no idea what I should do.

Make sure you're running the most current version of Java for your computer.

NI has an Open File feature you can use to view/edit a file such as a saved .CHR or .CRE. That might work for you.
