Okay so as I stated elsewhere, I've been researching and trying to install BGT for a while now and I just can't seem to get it to work.  I gave up on the bwp installer and have now tried multiple times to run just BGT without the mega mods and just several of the smaller mods.

Several failed attempts later, I actually got it to work, but trashed it when I tried to uninstall stormunition.  I restored from backups, as I had done several times before with no problems during the BGT install itself, and lo and behold BGT installer gives me the "tis2bg2.exe has encountered and error and needs to close" window.  I click don't send and the install continues for a while working on the area files, and the error repeats itself several times until the installer reaches the stage of decompressing the a areas.  Immedieately the installer fails, tries to uninstall, says that it can't find a file because it is in use by another program, then gives the the "Successfully uninstalled" message and asks if I want to try again.  I say no, restore, and try again with the same results.  Again, I start from scratch, complete uninstall/delete/reinstall, and try again.  Same results.

So I figure maybe my hardrive needs some maintenance.  I run ccleaner, chkdsk, defrag..... try again.  Same results.  Start from scratch, same results.  Run chkdsk again, finds bad clusters in an AR file.  Ran chkdsk again just now and came back clean.  I keep doing this with no disks in the drive, no images mounted, no internet connectionactive, no virus scanners, and I'm running xpsp3.

Oh and..... uhm..... I guess..... I don't know how to post the debug files.... or which ones to post?  I know the bash.debug...I think?  But how do I upload it?

Any help.... any at all...would be greatly appreciated.

alright, so I've installed ToBex, BG2Fixpack, and BGT has given me the tis2bg2 error only once. It was while (I think)the setup was getting the area files from BG1., What is this error and is it a big deal? It only asked once and it's compressing the game files now so I'm assuming it's actually going to finish. AAAAAAaaaaaand it did :)

Okay, so what I'm wondering now is is it even worth continuing to install mods or did the tis2bg2.exe thing break the game and the installer just doesn't know?

What's my next step?

I would investigate tis2bg2 crashes as because of them you will have crashes in the game areas afterwards.
Corrupted files are what might be causing them. Try an installation on another PC if you can do that. Or add a new HDD and install again.

Try installing on another PC or a new hard drive. And let's say you are doing an installation of BGT to drive E. Just in case, do everything by a user with Administrator rights. Disable the antivirus software.
1. Install BG1 to E:\BG1 and patch to the latest patch
2. Install BG2 to E:\BG2 and patch to the latest patch
3. Unpack TobEx, Fixpack and BGT archives to BG2 folder, remove all CD's from the drives
4. Install TobEx
5. Install BG2 Fixpack
6. Install BGT
7. Report how it went here

Alright, did all that and got a good install of those three mods on my windows 7 laptop, but my xp laptop is still in progress with another try. Gonna unpack the mods again rather than using the copies of the unpacks to install everything.

As for the one it DID work on, I didn't biff yet, so should I still be able to continue to add mods?

What about order?

Will I be able to get it to work without the stutter that seems to happen with the newer windows?

Yeah... on my xp machine BGT still crashes, but it's right at the beginning and it says that it can't locate karoug in the override folder. Did it twice now same results.

Okay so I installed a bunch of smaller mods and tweaks and such on the win7 machine and, while it did give a few errors on some components on some installs, nothing failed outright so I'm gonna try playing and see what happens. As soon as I figure out how to I'll post the log here and maybe somebody can tell me if I'm wasting my time. I'd really hate to get halfway through the game and find out that something screwed up and it doesn't work pas like chapter 2 of bg2 or something like that if I can avoid it.

Grrrr.... CTD at all loading game screens. It would load the save game from when I installed BG2 in the first place, but crashed immediately after loading the area. I'm still not sure how to post what files here..... trying to figure that out now..... Think I've got the weidu log.... turned logging on from the baldur ini and reproduced the crashes but I can't seem to open the baldur err file and the shs won't let me attach it here.... yeah.... now I know how the babe in the woods felt....

but I can't seem to open the baldur err file and the shs won't let me attach it here

It is a simple text file. If you change the extention to, say, .txt, you should be able to upload it just fine, as well as open it with whatever editor you normally open .txt files with.

I suggest running setup-GUI before the Widescreen mod.

I was thinking something like that. I didn't use GUI at all though.

So far so good, though I did manage to get one mod that's in dutch.  Or is it duesch?  I'm not sure how it's spelled but I don't speak it.  Doesn't seem to be a problem though, just some random characters/notes/journal entries that I can't understand and one fight because I talked to one and just kept choosing the first response  option without knowing what was going on, but no reputation lost or anything so no biggie.  It's a shame I can't play the mod though.  There seems to be a great deal of content and dialogue.  I imagine it would be pretty good.  Does anybody know of a translation?  Or even which mod it is?

A little more info is needed to identify it. What characters are involved and what's the header for the journal entries?
